Harley-Davidson has issued a massive recall for its 2009-2012 model years. The recall remedies possible rear brake issues for its Touring, CVO Touring and Trike lineups. More than 250,000 units in the U.S. market are potentially affected by the recall, which is issued by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

An NHTSA recall affects more than 250,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles from The Moto Company's Touring, CVO Touring and Trike model lines. Excessive heat from the exhaust system is to blame for the recall. The heat could cause the rear brake light switch to malfunction. The NHTSA recall states: “The excessive heat may cause the switch to not activate the brake lamp or activate the brake lamp when no brake is applied and/or cause a brake fluid leak at the brake light switch, affecting rear brake performance.”

Owners of the affected models will be contacted by Harley-Davidson. They will be entitled to free installation of a new brake light switch at dealers. The recall is expected to begin at the end of October. Riders can contact Harley-Davidson directly for more information at 1-414-343-4056.

FL is the touring chasis. Electra Glide, Road King, Street Glide, Road Glide, the rest are good to go.

All the FL's listed are essentially the same one, called the Touring Chasis.

They rerouted the exhaust away from the passengers foot and the reroute put too much heat at the where the switch is mounted.

Most people don't keep the stock or quiet pipes on there anyway, so most won't need it .

But stopping is serious buisness. So get her done.

That's great info Joe.....

My buddy Chris's Harley has been recalled.  He's taking it in this week to get the work done.
