It was good to actually see a little competition for the chapionship. Carl Edwards ran a good fight as well, but it's good to see someone who actually drove like a champ.

Gotta love Smoke. A true racer, I am sure he would do it for nothing, although the $5 million brought a smile to his face. Also loved the way he made Helton (the nascar guy) wait to give him the trophy while he was having some quality time with darian grubb and his son. Priceless cooldude cooldude cooldude cooldude

Nice thing about it, Rouch Racing driver didn't win the championship for his car owner.

Don't really care for Tony, but as stated above, I'll butt out now.

Chevy????  Grin
You mean the Chevys with a frame structure fashioned after a 1965 Ford, with the rear end based on a 9" Ford, with the transmission design based on a Ford top loader 4 speed and a universal body with stickers to tell the "brand"?
I thought GM was broke. What are they doing wasting taxpayer money on racing. It aint like NASCAR is making any new breakthroughs in technology these days.  Grin  Roll Eyes
I gave up on NASCAR years ago, brands are not involved like they used to be & it's diminished the fun of watching. I hear the "engine of tomorrow" is coming soon so the last shred of "stock" will be gone soon. I miss the old days when real Chevys, Fords & Dodges did the racing.  Undecided

Anyways it was quite a finish to the season.  Cool

Huge Tony Stewart fan. Went with him after Dale senior died. I liked Tonys attitude.  He reminded me of Sr. You may not want to hear it, or like everything he says, but he speaks his mind. Can't stand the corporate sponser mouthpieces, like J.J. Very happy to not see the #48 car and driver holding that trophy. You may not like Smoke, but that was one of the best, if not the best, force of wills you will ever see. He willed that car and team to a championship. He would not be denied. He carried them all to the win. Great drivers do that. Dale Sr. would have done the same exact thing. Great job Tony. You truely deserve the title of champion.

Huge Tony Stewart fan as well.  Started cheering for Tony after Sterling Marlin quit racing... I thought it was one of the best 10 races we have had in a long time.  Close racing, good sportsmanship, and did not have to deal with the Busch sisters any more than needed.  It was a win win...

I ran stock cars in the 60-70's and NASCAR is not stock car racing.  They pick the best looking guy on the team and put him into a car that any monkey can drive.  Air conditioning, power steering WTF is that all about.  Not one of them guys has a pair.  The guy gets out of the car after 500 miles and looks like he just woke up and is ready to start partying.  Put any of them in an old big block 1968 Chevelle and they would have trouble just making it around the track.  We used to get out of a car after 125 miles and want to lay down from exhaustion.  I have not watched a full race in over 30 years.  Just the hi lights from time to time.  If they ever go back to pre 1968 rules I might regain my interest.  Now all I watch if anything is the GT class.  At least those are much closer to factory production vehicles.

Yeah, it's not what it used to be. The cars themselves are pretty much interchangeable. There's much better racing out there.

Got in a Stock Car at Talladega and did a ride along at over 170mph.

While carrying a loaded pistol, forgot I had it on until I was squeezing in the window.

You ain't lived till you do that.

I can't imagine what it would be like going off into turn 4 after running 3/4 mile straight with someone pushing your ass at Talladega.

At 195mph.

That is what racing is about.

Bring the best and try to win at all costs.

Take the car's from the 60's out of the museum-Put the top driver's today in them for a 500 lapper
at martinsville in 90 degree weather-Wonder what they would look like climbing out of the car after
that ?

As a general rule I don't. But I've seen enough of it lately to know that it's the minor league.

The short track racing part of NASCAR is still very interesting to watch. Aerodynamics plays a very small role in those races & all the cars have more than enough HP to overpower the track. Even when the cars were based more on real cars at the end of those races you couldn't tell one from another.
I heard that EFI was coming to NASCAR soon. That oughta be a hoot to watch that change shake out!  Grin

Compared to F1, WRC and MotoGP it's minor league. Don't get me wrong, it can still be very entertaining sometimes, but you're never gonna convince me that NASCAR drivers are in any way elite among drivers.

I do enjoy watching them on road courses because the cars are so ill-suited for it that it makes for very exciting racing. But to me the ovals are just big yawnfests. Condense the race into ten minutes of highlights and I'm there.

after they resurfaced the track at bristol they were racing thru the turns 3 wide.  some people didn't like it because it cut back on (a little of) the banging.  personally i liked the additional passing/driving that it introduced.  i've thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the track, watching the races when i get a chance, and seeing 160,000 people enjoy themselves.

anvil, i wouldn't try to convince you of anything lol.  i know if you got to watch a race in person, especially from the pits, that you'd love it and would be less apt to apply the gross categorization.  also,  i'm sure that you know this but there have been drivers that have been both Formula 1 and NASCAR drivers.  like i said, i’m not an avid NASCAR fan but i don’t remember the Formula 1 guys sweeping in and taking the sport over.  to each their own.

I've actually seen several races in person. My company used to get VIP tickets to NHIS every year so I got to take customers.

And popularity is not directly indicative of value. Last time I looked Britney Spears had sold an assload of records. She still sucks.  Wink

NASCAR has a certain appeal to the masses and an accessibility that I can appreciate but I think that a lot of what made the sport so compelling has been watered down in the past ten years or so.

I've still got acquaintances involved in NASCAR.  In Feb of 1997 I was back on a race track by invitation doing a few laps in my 57 Chevy along with a few other of my classic Chevy Club members prior to the Copper World Classic.  At the time that series of races were part of the NASCAR Southwest series held at PIR here in Arizona.  Despite the fact that we had VIP tickets and free run of the pit areas I left half way through the second race as I was bored.

As far as Harley riders are concerned.  Out here you do not need to be an expert or genius to see the negative impact they have had on the motorcycle community.  We have added police scrutiny.  Enforcement of noise laws.  Police cars equipped with sound monitors and positioned on major roads entering communities on the weekends.  An increase of speed traps leading to biker bars on weekends.  Then there is the false persona they present of motorcycle riders to the non motorcycle community.  Loud, brash, immature drunks who can’t keep their hands off the throttles.  I have been to city council meetings where they discuss these topics so I am well aware of the non riders concerns.  This despite the fact that one year the Scottsdale cops handed out 58 DUI’s when the Phoenix Open golf tournament was in town and only 11 DUI’s when Arizona Bike Week was held just down the street at Westworld a few weeks later.

I understand Arizona is one of their most lucrative markets for Harley’s and though I have no way of verify that claim, with the abundance of them out here I can believe that statistic.

Oh, sorry, my mistake! Embarrassed Had I known that you once ran a few "Parade Laps" around a NASCAR track in a 57 Chevy, I of course would have not questioned your expertise on all NASCAR, and the skill required to drive one of the cars on the edge. Roll Eyes

As for the whole HD thing, why won't you understand that it is strictly a matter of that there are more Harleys out there than any other "Identifiable" brand. If there were no heavy cruisers or nothing other than Scooters, the same idiots would be revving the piss out of whatever they were riding. Those guys are jerks no matter what they ride, and it's the fact that there are so darn many Harleys (check out the  percentage of Harleys to all other brands combined in the class of bike they represent) that makes them stick out so much.

It's not what you ride, rather than who the rider is, and the fact that you do ride that matters. I've learned to stay away from those that irritate me, and I have a feeling that were I near you, I would avoid you as well. Wink
