When I started my job close to 25 years ago I worked with a man who hired in to dig up graves and remove the remains to a new location . He claimed to have moved several hundred when TVA was building dams and flooding land for lakes.

Most of our larger lakes in Arkansas cover cemeteries as well.  We got 3 inches last night.

All cemeterys were moved in the relatively recent history of man made lakes in Kansas, as they were built.  Most were built since the fifties.  I remember a big deal was made of it when I was young.  Hoser

When Sam Rayburn in East Texas was built, they moved the cemetarys from the flood zones.  Was a very emotional time as they dug up Mom, thank God her casket held togeather.  Many graves just had parts in them, and some nothing, they werent treated with much respect.  When they carried Moms csaket out, they dropped one side and the lid was comming open as it was falling.  I caught it on the way down, all I could think of was it hitting the ground and her body rolling out.  Was a day that I will remember forever.

It's not surprising.  There is only one natural lake in Texas and it has been dammed twice since 1900.
