I went to start the valkyrie today, it took two tries. When it started, both trip meters reset to 0.00. It has happened a couple times when the battery was low but today it wasnt low at all. Anyone else ever have that happen to them? Thanks, Chuck

Nope. Sounds like a loose connection somewhere.

Nope. Something cut the power, though.

It happened to me. It turned out to be a loose battery connection (ground).

I'd say battery or connection..... could be a loose connection in the harness to the dash- had a Goldwing that had a loose plug and when you turned the bars to the right just right it would shut down.... usually at the wrong moment.

Chuck,
When you say the battery wasn’t low, how do you qualify that? It can read 12 volts or near that but actually have little to no amperage available. If it took two try’s it might have been low and that is sufficient to wipe out the trip meters. I've had that problem twice. Usually when this happens you may find that your radio presets will also be messed up.
Of course, and you probably already know this, when the Interstate trip meter goes over 999.9 it starts again at 0.

I did - the connector to the back of the cluster inside the fairing was loose.

What I get is the display pause/scramble; best way I can describe it. Especially after no-start incidents. (This has arisen here as a topic in the past and I'll dig for that info at some point). After the starter switch acts up and eventually decides to play along, I'll ride off and have a blank display. This will be followed by a scrambled display...eventually sorting itself out. I've always attributed this to the switch, but reading the above input I could be wrong.

My old battery wouldn't hold a charge very well. When I tried to start the bike with the low battery, of course it wouldn't start. That is when the trip meter would reset and also the radio controls. Now with the good battery (I also have a volt meter on the bike) and plenty of juice in the battery, that's when the trip meter reset. The radio presets are still fine and all the connections I checked are good. HMMMMM Maybe just a little glitch. I always reset the trip meter 1 when filling up with gas so I can check my mileage. After a long trip, I reset both trip meters. So, yes, I know the trip meters rolls over. Thanks for all the input. I will just keep on riding it and see if it happens again. Hopefully it wont. It is just a bummer I couldn't check my mileage this time. I was just seeing what kind of mileage I could get without having my foot/hand/arm whatever through the carbs.
