I see many stores are opening on Thanksgiving to get a head start on Black Friday.  Before we know it, Christmas may join the other holidays as just another work day.  I'd like to see non-essential employees sit out on these holidays and let those companies know there is a line to be drawn.  Holidays should be for all of us, not just those who work for the government.  Not a nickle would be spent on a holiday that couldn't be spent on the day before or after.

Me, I think I will ride my Valk with gas I buy before a holiday.  Cheesy

It would only happen if we as consumers would boycott those stores and hours. Fat chance of that happening. It's hard to blame the stores for not passing up that much potential profit. We the consuming public are the problem. They're just catering to us.

Well, I work for a company that is 24-7-365. We are in transportation and you would be surprised at how many places we service that are open on Christmas.  Over my 18 years working in transportation, I have definitely seen a trend to working on all holidays.  Remember when no one was open on Sunday?  How many businesses now are closed on Sundays?

Chick Fil-A is closed on Sunday and that is about it in this area.  I remember in the early'90's we started opening on Sundays.  Blue laws were in effect before then.  I had church folk come in shopping telling me I was going to hell for working on the Sabbath.  If they had stayed home, I could have as well but I needed a job.

Corporate greed but your family WANT to go shopping. So who is creating the demand and MAKING the workers go to work?

Britman, I agree with you 100%. People have it in their power not to shop at all hours or on Holidays. As long as they do, companies will fill the need they see created, and the opportunity to profit by the experience. Embarrassed Sad

I'm supose to work this thanksgiving, i will be calling in sick.  mainly because we've worked every holiday so far this year, and the salary people get to stay at home with their family.  we are a non union shop, and in wisconsin they have the right to fire you for no reason, and they do.  so, yes, i might be unemployed this time next week, but if i don't make a stand for something, then there's nothing worth standing for.

i look at it like this;  if the company doesn't care about MY family, then why should i care about the company?
