Y'all see what's wrong with this picture?

Here, I'll zoom in a bit...

Soooo....that was just a bit of a surprise...there was this hard stop, ya see...and the bars dropped...kind of hard to steer when the bars are beside your tank...

The bottom half of that riser is gone too...there's a stress mark in the chrome...that would have done me in I expect...

Heh...all the stunt riding happened after the bars dropped.

but the risers themselves look out of whack completely.

Nah, illusion from the close camera angle (less than 2"). They are completely in whack...until the break.

As soon as some new ones come in (a different design this time...these suck...for obvious reasons) they'll go "whack" when I see just how far down the alley I can throw the durn things.

Dude... Having the handlebar come off while I'm riding is literally a recurring nightmare of mine... Were those stock risers, or after market of some sort?

I'm all paranoid now, and will be checking mine frequently...

Heh...yeah, it opens the eyes a little bit doesn't it? Throw in Dallas traffic and I was just glad to get home.

Pretty sure they are Custom Chrome risers. Been a while since I bought 'em. Should have noted before buying that they weren't beefy enough at the point where they broke. Most every other model is stronger there.

They are the first ones shown in this article:
http://www.timskelton.com/valkyrie/how_to/risers.htm

I wouldn't use 'em (again). If you have them, I'd change to something else. I ride, and ride hard...but there is no reason other than faulty design for them to have broken.

Whew, thanks for the update... I'm VERY glad I'm perfectly happy with the stock risers now!

(Not that they're infallible, but, well.....)

And very glad things didn't go FAR worse, they very easily could have!

I think that I read in the warning section of the directions to not give any plus size women a ride on the handle bars.

Wowsa.... Daniel.... I'm glad that didn't happen at a more inopportune moment... like when you were pressing hard on the right handlebar.... in a short radius turn at an elevated speed... YIKES!

That is why I opted for the Harley Deuce risers on my bike. At least they were engineered for a motorcycle by a major manufacturer and still have a good chrome finish. It seems that some of these aftermarket providers don't have their engineering correct on some of these aftermarket risers.

It wasn't very long ago that someone else posted over on the Tech board about a riser failure on an aftermarket pair of risers.

Good Luck!
