I heard on the radio today that a middle school girl kissed a boy in phys-ed class and the principal called the cops. The principal needs a kick in the head. I had a hard time finding the story but here is a transcript from the Rush Limbaugh show. http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2811098/posts

Really, kicked in the head? So what do you think his options were? Wait till the kid told his ultra religious mom, and then lose his job? Yea it's crazy on both sides of the fence these days. I'd air on the side that keeps me employed.

I'd air on the side that keeps me employed. And you would part of the problem and not the solution.Obituary of Common Sense !
Today, we mourn the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense.
Common Sense lived a long life, but died from heart failure at the brink of the Millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools; hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness.
For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in from rain, the early bird gets the worm and life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it's okay to come in second.
A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and new math.
But his health declined when he became infected with the "if-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus. In recent decades, his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal legislation.
He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies; when reports were heard of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; when a teen was suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch; when a teacher was fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but couldn't inform the parent when a female student is pregnant or wants an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable regulations for asbestos, low-flow toilets, smart guns, the nurturing of Prohibition Laws and mandatory air bags.
Finally, when told that the homeowners association restricted exterior furniture only to that which enhanced property values, he breathed his last.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son Reason. His three stepbrothers survive him: Rights, Tolerance and Whiner.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you had listened to the rest of the story you would have known that the cops were not called until the girl was interviewed by the principal and she related the story of what was happening to her in her own home. The cops were called to investigate the home not the school.

To bad you can't conceal carry in Obama's Chicago. I would have put a slug in that punks arse. [/quote] Ever heard of Berhard Goetz? He only had to serve "2/3rds of a 1 year sentence" for illegally carrying in NYC, after shooting 4 or 5 muggers. 1984... source Wikipedia

2/3rds of a year is a small price to pay for your life....but it is still wrong to be persecuted (even 1/3rd /yr or even a half an hour)for defending yourself or even being prepared to do so!

I was just making the point that if you were to shoot a person who struck a 3rd person with his fist, you might regret it- believe me I would love it if every violent a**hole who deserved it got shot by a good samaritan, but remember no good deed goes unpunished. You tell me- if you are armed and driving down a city street at night (say Boston, and it's snowing), and see a woman get mugged by 2 teens. Nobody else is around. A woman is clearly being robbed of her Christmas gifts she just purchased. You're going to do what? My response probably would be: lay on the horn, call 911 on the cell, try to stop the car and illuminate the area but ready to take off if I am attacked by those or other teens. I probably would not exit the car and/or draw my weapon. Since I'm not trained in the legal or the physical aspects of self defense or in the legal ramifications of coming to someones aid and wind up shooting some (alleged) perps, I guess the 1st thing I'd do is not drive around Boston late at night in a showstorm... I'm definitely not ready to make a shoot-no shoot decision, but I figure an experienced and trained individual would already know the legalities and risks of intervening in a situation like this- or like in Bernhard Goetz's case.

Good points all. And really, you couldn't (and shouldn't) be shooting people for things like that if only because you could potentially injure a bystander and really, the crime has been committed. Chasing the person down and shooting them is now revenge. But being armed would empower you to follow them while calling 9/11. Odds are they won't like you tailing them but if you are packing then there won't be anything they can do about it. It can also empower you to stop a crime in progress (like the mugging you describe).

Limbaugh wasn't the source....it was a report by the local media (actual news source) that he was reading. In their haste to get out the report, the "actual news source" got it wrong.

Yeah but how often do these things end up being more complicated than they first appear? Or how often is a news source rushed into print without being factually accurate? (the answer is; a LOT). So maybe before hopping on your structurally reinforced soapbox you (and I mean Limbaugh) should think about maybe checking things out better? This kind of story is a wet-dream for Beckittybaugh. He should have known it was too good to be true.

so it's ok for an actual news source to get it wrong......and it's up to me to fact check behind them for accuracy.
It should be the news source doing the investigation into a story they are going to release to get the facts correct, not the responsibility of the reader to fact check their story.
Shoot the messenger, not the message is the name of the game.
That may be a major part of the reason why so many newspapers have lost huge numbers of readers.

Or at least cross-check with other reputable news sources.
It should be the news source doing the investigation into a story they are going to release to get the facts correct, not the responsibility of the reader to fact check their story.
Yes it should. Do you automatically believe everything you read? I can point you to a number of reputable news sources (and I'm not sure that local yahoos qualify just because they have an FCC license) who's blown stories. Again, you may not necessarily have to research the facts yourself but you should know not to jump on this kind of thing without giving the news cycle time to catch up.
But see, Rush doesn't care about that. His dittohead listeners will eat up whatever he tells them and completely forgive (and even make excuses for) this kind of thing just like they make excuses for his being a doctor-shopping pill-head.
Shoot the messenger, not the message is the name of the game.
When the messenger is an alarmist who who cares more about agendas than facts and responsibility then yeah, it's open season.
That may be a major part of the reason why so many newspapers have lost huge numbers of readers.
Ya think?
