Been listening to a lot of bluegrass music on XM 61. Seems like bluegrass is what country used to be before it went Hollywood. Is that accurate? Either way I like it.

I like good country and bluegrass but that pop-ified stuff I can do without. Alison Krauss can come sing me to sleep any time she wants.

This is from a Legend who died at 29. You may not like it but it is country to the bone. A song you could say I travel on. But to the side I will make my break. Off the lost Highway.

I like good country and bluegrass but that pop-ified stuff I can do without. Alison Krauss can come sing me to sleep any time she wants. Yep, thats the problem. Manufactured pop country. Take the prettiest 'artists', dress them in torn jeans and a battered hat and make them a star. They could record screaming hell banshees, promote the heck out of them and convince people to buy their CDs. Besides so much of that stuff is slow. FWIW my typical music of choice is metal but I get bored listening to the same old stuff so I reach out to other stuff. Peppy stuff, like Bluegrass.

That is some form of Country. No drums in Bluegrass. No guitar amps either. A few groups have used an electric bass because it is easier to travel with than the big one.

I am a big fan of older country, and bluegrass. I am thankful for Sirius. I usually get tired of any modern music. I am big fan of Marty Robbins. What an entertainer he was! I also ran across these guys.. bluegrass with a twist??? http://thecleverlys.com/videos/I laughed my butt off!!! Craig NcGhostrider 99 I/S

I'm a metalhead meself (grew up mostly on NWOBHM) but as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate more styles. You're from RI huh? Not too far from here... Oh, and I won't allow anyone to post Nickelback and get away with it unchallenged.

well Bev and I both do music, i play a number of instruments mostly pedal steel guitar and i sing country, old country and Bev sings Bluegrass and has been tagged as the Queen of bluegrass. she even has a gold record hanging on the wall in our studio. so yea bluegrass aint like it used to be, altho i like the old blue grass you can only take so much of high pitched men singing into a coffee can,,todays blue grass is great,, look up Rhonda Vincent,, didnt take long to get the heavy metel post in a country thread did it? Bevs son is a leader of a heavy metal band,, google War Creek Mafia thats him...

I grew up on rock - Hendrix, Clapton, Robin Trower, Jimmy Page, etc. and I still like the old rock, but the newer stuff just didn't do it for me. Somewhere along the line started liking country music, just not from this country. I really got into traditional Irish/Celtic music (which evolved into bluegrass when it came to this country). Not everyone's cup of tea, but it would be incredibly boring if we all liked the same thing. -RP

My choices would be Merl Haggert , George Strait and Randy Travis for country with a bit of Tom T Hall. Songs with a bit of a story in them, but you gotta like listening to the lyrics. The Blue Grass seems to be more instrumental, banjos , guitar and mandolin amplified accoustic with a quicker tempo. My Son plays what I would call new country, after Garth Brooks changed it's direction. He's just released his 2nd album recorded in Nashville, stage name Levi Hart. He's opening for Kid Rock in Denver December 1st. I'm thinking it's all good if it entertains you.
