The 5.98 ep might be my favorite Metallica record. I played that so much...
The Black album was decent, but everything after that is crap with a few decent songs scattered about (Fixxer for instance).

Metallica was like a musical Samson...
They cut their hair, and went totally down the toilet...
(Not to mention it's generally a bad practice to sue your fans, but that's another story...)

THAT is why I am so violently disgusted with them. In fact, my distaste for that particular episode in musical history has actually interfered with my ability to enjoy their older work and I work very hard to separate the artist from the music. I mean I was 100% behind them in their fight with Napster. Artists deserve to get paid for their music and facilitating a way around that is out of line. Metallica also egotiated a record deal that pays them an unusually high (for the record industry) percentage of record sales whereas most other acts rely on money from touring and merchandise. That's why Metallica lead the charge against Napster with record companies closely in tow (but a glaring lack of support from other artists). But suing your FANS? I'm sorry but that is about the most un-metal thing you can do. And over the past decade or so I've come to realize that Lars is a below average drummer at best. He used to be serviceable, but his skills have dramatically eroded and I'm sure it's because he's a fat, lazy tool who's quite happy turning out crap. I never would have thought that James would stand for that, so shame on him too.

Metallica BLOWS. They got Napster shut down......then James Hetsfield said that they're just in the business to make money. They never got anymore of mine.
