Just goes to prove that the Goldwing is rarely pushed close to it's limits.

i'm pretty sure that rider's been around the track a few times!!  he's really not leaning that thing at all, basically shifting his weight and keeping it upright most of the times, i'd bet he'd be impressed on how low he can get that thing to bank if he'd try!

Like most things; 95+% attributed to their skill level, the rest to the equipment. Dragging knees on a big Gold Wing, that's some good riding.

Thanks for the post and link,

If I saw a GW at a track day I'm pretty sure I'd hold back and watch a while. They were faster in those turns than I would be.

My Google-Fu is failing me, but there once was a writeup, with pictures, of someone from this very organization who took their Valkyrie Interstate to a track day school, and did quite well...

That track is the road course at NHIS where I've done my trackdays. I think the chase rider was just doing camera work. He could have blown by that slowpoke any time he wanted.

The guy riding the Goldwing (camera bike) chasing the yellow one is a friend of mine.  He told me Yellow Wolf was WAY holding back on speed to allow this video to be shot.  I cannot imagine this spped on the Gap and to be "holding back" MAN alive.  But thats no stock Goldwing either as far as suspension.  My friend did some of them fork uprgrades too but he said he was maxed out and holding on and Yellow Wolf was just playing with him....LOL

A couple of years ago I won one of those Track Days at the Cycle World Motorcycle Show. It was going to be a combination of classroom and track training and I was pretty pumped about going. But then they said I couldn't wear my Tour Maste riding gear since it wasn't leather .... oh and you can't ride your Valk. Decided that if I can't ride the Valk I ain't going and gave them the coupon back.

awesome videos, both of them. I've seen videos of how flickable a GW is under parking lot speeds but not on a track day. I've never been on a GW myself. I wonder whether the GW single sided swingarm makes it so flickable. Yes, the same type of swingarm on mopeds and only on a few lighter bikes.

It has nothing to do with the SSA. That side to side transition speed (aka: flickability) is a combination of chassis geometry and center of mass placement/location. Tires also have an effect but it's not the big determining factor.

well, that's what I'm wondering about ..... whether the singe sided swingarm allows a more agile suspension design/geometry

Yellow Wolf was still hanging out at Deals Gap the first time I was there. I didn't get to meet him, didn't get to talk to him but I did hear him telling some sport bike riders to ride at whatever speed they were comfortable with and he would maintain the right distance to video tape them. I didn't know who he was at the time and found that pretty hard to believe. Once I got home and found out who he was I realized that I knew far less than I thought I did.
