Ok, I traded someone rear rotors....I had a late model, needed early.  Went to install it today and found Im in a dilema.  Looking at my bike and the hole pattern on the fishe it appears this particular rotor has been mounted and used some "backwards (or upside down)

On my bike the min thickness stamp is "out" as in you can read it while the wheel is mounted on the bike.  This rotor has mounting marks on that side, so the last time it was mounted you would not have been able to read the marking.....

So.....does it really matter which way this thing goes....it appears to be very symetrical except for the hole pattern.

There is no direction arrow like the fronts.

Can anyone confirm that proper orientation would be with the min thickness stamp to the outside?

And, would there be any problem using this thing if it has been previously run backward?

I am leaning towards mounting it opposite how it has been in the past which I think would be the "right way"

I am sure that the min thickness stamping should be readable, as that is what I read in the manual, and was how 5 different rotors where all mount on Hondas.

As to if they are directional? I don't know, but I would say it doesn't matter as long as they bolt up. Even if it had been mounted inside out, I don't think there is any reason you need to mount it the same way.

Not even mine but now i'm curious. 2funny Do you have anyway to find out if it was P O or stealer that installed it backwards?? uglystupid2 Not really important in the long run just curious. Wink Once you get it mounted and use it could you please let us know if there are any issues using it?? Roll Eyes T I A. RIDE SAFE.

It was the PO that mounted it that way.........like you said not that it matters, there is very little wear on it, so Im sure in no time I will teach it to perform going the proper direction

CJ,
pg 14-8 of tech manual states there should be a "rear out side" mark on the disc and this should be facing out.

Yes, I know, I read that too......however this disk has a number and a min thickness stamp and no "rear outside"  I guess thats how this whole dilema got started

But...after a close look at the one on my bike....there is a "rear outside" stamp on that one and its on the same side as the min thickness stamp

For myself, while I was selling the rotors from my wrecked IS, the purchaser wanted to know the thickness, so he knew how much life was left. Since I had the mic anyways, I went around and measured all my rotors. 2 bikes and 2 spare rear rims, for trying the Darkside later, all where within the specified min thickness listed on the rotors on the outside.
