My Garmin Zumo came with a mount and power cords that connect to switched power. When I turn off the key the Garmin asks me it I want it to say on <yes/no>. Simple and convenient.

I don't know if you found one yet, but I came across this low price waterproof motorcycle GPS.  I thought this may be fair deal if you don't want to shell out the bucks for a Zumo.  Check it out $159.

I don't worry about waterproof and have to pay big bucks for Zumo's etc.   I carry a high tech device which when it rains I install over the unit and it waterproofs all day long.   That way I buy a cheapy Garmin and have all the capabilities that I need.

A baggie !

Yea, but you do get live weather maps with some Zumo's. That part I love. More than a few times I've navigated and timed my stops and rides to avoid storms. Sweet.

I installed a fuse block that gives my the option of switched or unswitched power.  My GPS is a Nuvi 500 which I bought as a refurb from Amazon for $185.  It is weatherproof and does everything that I need.

Under one of the side covers (I think it's the left side when sitting on the bike), there's a spare connecter on the standard that is controlled by the switch.  I wired my belly tank to it.

You could use this connection to run a set of wires up to your GPS mount.

Or, you could always install an after market fuse box which normally gives you more than one connection.

+1
That connector is ON and OFF as you switch the key and is perfect for the GPS.
You find the connector in the instructions book for your bike, and the wire is easy to lay along side the fuel tank and further to the handle bar  cooldude

As you get more "extras" on your bike, you "build" further from this Wink
