I like it better then the trigger wheel mod. Lot more responsive. I also dont have to use my choke. No dyno for me. I only get 32ish mpg. Was getting 35ish with the trigger wheel. I dont have the pot tho. Couldnt figure out how to put it on.

The pot looks confusing, yes. Nice to have the cold advance all the time, and it drops off above 3000 RPM, so no affect on the hiway.

I did ect and springs in my standard without pot, but was sitting in traffic on a hot day and temp on bike kept going up was a pain either going to neutral or shutting down so I installed pot that way I can shut off advance in situattions like that

I am thinking about the pot myself. You mentioned the heat rising, when I had the supercharger on my bike I hooked up a switch for my fan. I could cool the bike off and not wait till it heated up to turn on. Work out nice.

I did the ECT mod with pot, I like the ability to dial in the advance and did not want 10 degrees total. If you are leery of the pot and resister, you could install a toggle switch and just have on-off mode.

Sorry, no Dyno. I installed the ECT with pot on both a Standard and I/S. I agree that 10 degrees is too much. I use midgrade to avoid problems. Both bikes are getting 36 to 40 mpg (depending on how much fun I'm having). This is 2 or 3 mpg better than before. I also installed the I/S carb springs and an I/S ICM I think they are made to work together. You can feel the difference in acceleration. One time I accidently turned the pot off while washing the bike. I could tell right away that something was wrong. That's another good thing about wiring the pot. You can easily compare on and off and dial in where it feels happy.

I had the old Dyna 3000, and it gave me more fits than a barrel of monkeys.
One day in the heart of Kansas, hotter than billy hubs of hell, sweat running down every crack in my body, the Dyna quit and I took it off and put it back stock.
I put my 6* back in when I got home and MGM is still set up that way. Oh, I didn't take out the I/S springs or Viking's needle kit. If I stay under 75, I average right at 38 to 40 mpg. Above that, I'll not tell ya the lowest I got, it is embarrassing.
My setup, I have raced a lot of bikes, beat some and got my ass kicked by a Blower bike a Suzuki Hyabusa and a few others. Hung right on a Triumph 3 banger butt. So I'm happy, and when grandpa is happy most everyone else is also.
I heard a lot of voice on making the ECT mod cause they didn't have to use the choke. Vell, if they can go to the garage when it is -10, yes minus 10, and they can get theirs started as quick as mine will, I might consider making the mod. In my part of the country, a choke is needed and used. I was told as a youngun what a choke was and why you used it. Dad never let me forget that either.

Did the ECT mod with pot on my 97 std. Have had zero problems. It does not run hotter than normal, i typically run regular gas with about an oz of startron. Last tank I got 42mpg running 65-75 mph on open road.

How are your pilot screws set? Mine are at 1 3/4 turns out and I still need the choke. I've never seen 42 but It could just be a difference in right wrist action. I installed the pot as well; I keep it on about 1/2 but I'm running an I/S ICM and springs.

I have been running with the pot fully on and IS springs. The pilots are about 2 1/4ish if i remember right. I have tried a Dyna and it would routinely quit on me so I gave up on it. I tried an IS ECM and it quit on me 150 miles from home! The only ECM that works right is the original one - go figure. While I get pretty decent mileage on the highway if I don't exercise my right wrist - I have also had it drop to the mid to high 20's when I do exercise
