How ignorant can the people that work for the TSA be?

What really gets me is that the "Supervisor" allowed this to continue.

This tells me that the ignorance goes all the way to the top.  uglystupid2

Come on, you're kidding, right? right?  I'd rather drive or ride when I go somewhere, anyway.  Bunch of clowns as far as I'm concerned.   2funny  Hoser

How ignorant is the girl?

The TSA needs a really big revamping or just disband it.  Does it really accomplish anything anyways either than ruffing old ladies and children?

I have to fly more than I'd like to for work, and every time I have to go through an airport "security", my blood boils.

They are ineffective.  I have personally carried a 3.5" pocketknife through 2 different airports by mistake.  My coworker has carried a boxcutter knife through 3 different airports.  Adam Savage (Mythbusters) carried 2 11" foam cutting blades (razor knives) through airport security by mistake.  ELEVEN INCHES!!

The "employees" of the TSA have the gall to call themselves "American citizens"????  How?  They propagate the molestation of every person that passes through the airport, every day.  How is that American?

There may have been times in my life where I was hard-up for a job, but I would NEVER molest American citizens for a paycheck.

This is nothing more than a group corrupted by power. They know as long as the
Democrats are in power they are protected and they will continue to abuse their
authority. If I was the Republican nominee, abolishing this agency would be one
of the main points of my campaign. I shudder to think what will become of this
country if we have another four years of this corrupt administration and their goons.

I agree with these posts.
Disband the TSA, why bother checking anyone? Let's go back to the old days and travelers can carry what ever they want onto a plane. There sure was no reason to even start this screening stuff.
Just think of how bad all the out of work TSA employees will feel when they can't get ready for work and look forward to all the folks they will get to "molest" today-that'll show 'em!
Hey, this is as good an alternative as anybody else has come up with.
I could really get into this bashing the government without thinking what is trying to be accomplished. Hey, it's supposed to be all about me anyway, right? we don't need anubody but ourselves, right?
Mindless complaining/carping really gets it done.

Remember when you had a sense of humor?  Wink

Disband the TSA? That's just stupid talk. You need an agency that handles this kind of thing with consistent rules across the board. You can't leave it up to separate state agencies.

They do need a complete review and overhaul of procedure though. Focusing on a stupid purse decoration means that resources were drawn away from potential real threats. I've had my share of run-ins with them myself and unfortunately their hiring standards seem to be minimal at best. There are some very good, very alert people working for the TSA, but there are some dopes as well and with most government agencies promotions and power are rarely assigned based on merit but on other political factors. One thing is true though; they do not have an easy job when you consider the stakes.

Thing is; it CAN be handled properly. Government agencies (specifically as they apply to anything aviation related, though the TSA is not an aviation specific agency) can run efficiently. I just think that in this case the wrong people altogether are running the show.

do you have any idea of the number of weapons etc that are confiscated monthly? trust me, you'd be impressed. our laws do not allow "profiling" so everyone gets the treatment.34 years ago a 80+ year old woman was stopped a Detroit metro with 5 ,count them, 5 handguns concealed around her wheelchair. the way i saw it, there were at least 4 others involved in that group. the airlines saw it different and everyone else flew that day. granted most of the supervision are there because they had friends above them, but the average screener is very good at their job. they put up with a TON of crap from passengers and flight crew as well as constant threats and bullshit from their supervisors.

by the way: the law is the law, not even a replica weapon on board. Period.

so tank......what airport as a TSA screener do you work at??.....as a crewmember and part of the FFDO programme ..I get tired of the the crap TSA dishes out,...in the name of "security"......especially when they are not held to the same standards.......I spend a lot of time going through many airports.....the TSA are far from standard, and the bad press they recieve is somewhat self inflicted and justified.....

given that you live in NZ, you must see many airports worldwide-not just those with TSA providing security. How does TSA compare to the security in place at the other airports you travel through?
How do you suggest the problem be addressed and to whom should we direct our suggestions for improvement?

don't worry Kiwi, i'm with you cooldude i retired out of DTW as AFSD a 4 of years ago, i agree it's a mess, but they are doing their best ,hobbled as they are by the bureaucracy above them and no pay raises in years, this impacts morale  on a whole.
i turned in my paperwork the day i had 20 yrs. but left behind a lot of good people, fortunately i had a chance to install a number of competent people prior. they did a good job for a couple of years before they had to get out ,or kill someone.

ricoman...tank....agreed,its easy to sling crap and  not suggest a solution(s)....ricoman,their are many issues that need to be addressed and they are not easily solved or resolved.........my biggest issue is that the travelling public wants safety and security but are not prepared or willing  to pay for it........money will not solve all these issues, and for sure tank will agree that this is an ongoing education and exercise, but money well spent gives better training and equipment.......The flying public, especialy in the USA have had,and expect flying to be cheap.....those days have gone,as you well know......you cannot expect to get qualified, well trained, knowledgable, and efficient operations,if you are not willing to pay for it.........
There are many of us that are privy to info concerning ,what I like to call..."the bad bastards of the world"......and we need to be ever vigilant and concerned.......you just need to look at the situation  the cargo pilots face, the lack of screening.......but as tanks admission says, its a mess.........its behoves all of us to be pro-active in security and our own responsibilities concerning personal security.........
