Been doing my homework and there's a question I can't seem to find the answer to. Well, 2 questions, actually.
1. How do you know when the Methanol has finished boiling off?
2. How can you tell when the ethanol has finished boiling off?
In regards to the Methanol, I'd really like a sure fire way of avoiding it entirely, it's some nasty stuff.

Those chemicals only boil with in a certain temperature range. When above or below that temp they are not vapor. You take off heads and tails because as the temp. comes up it goes throughtheir boiling ranges and as temp drops back down they will also boil again. It's in the mash and stays there when not boiling.  |

That is for NON distilled beverages, wine and beer. Even a pot stil for brandy is tax evasion among other things Fermentation-Legal ... Distillation-jail and fines |

A very accurate thermometer is how you know. 172.6 degerees...then dump what you have so far and dont let it drop below or get above while taking off. all good from there until temp drops. You only want the middle of the batch. put the rest back thru' in next run and take from middle again. |
