Anyone who has not had a gun of some kind go off unexpectedly, just hasn't been in the shooting game very long or has not shot very much, one of the two.  The real trick to safety is to never point any gun of any kind toward something you do not want to kill.  So, if you see me pointing a gun in your direction, you had better duck QUICK...JTL

The 5 things that must happen for a firearms tragedy to occur:

1.  The gun must be functional.
2.  The gun must be loaded.
3.  The gun must be handled.
4.  The gun must be pointed at someone.
5.  The trigger must be pulled.

As a Firearms Instructor, I check my firearm before each demo and have a student also check it.  I don't want to be like the Police Instructor in Northern Georgia that shot and killed a student.  There have been a few times at the start of class that I found the mags in my mag pouch were still loaded.  I immediately stopped class, left, unloaded them and returned to class.  You can NEVER be too careful.   cooldude

I've been around firearms all my life and have taught many many people regarding the proper way to handle all types of firearms. Every time I handle a gun or pass it to another person, I "ALWAYS" open the action to ensure it is NOT loaded!

ALWAYS,,, treat a gun as if it 'IS' loaded and never, ever, EVER,,,, point it at something that you don't intend to shoot!
