Sears - Christmas shopping this year.
I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice.

It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?
What commitment you say?
How does Sears treat its employees who are serving in our military?
By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being in active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all employees who are serving.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once.

Be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

"I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the
Internet may have just become one very good source of advertising for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store."

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.
Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our men and women can make. This is the "least" we can do for them. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our Military!!!

It's verified! By:

Glad to do my part. The only thing I asked for for Christmas this year is a SEARS Craftsman motorcycle lift/jack to ease maintenance on the Iron Maiden.

Did NOT know this.  What a fine example Sears is.  I have a lot of Sears Craftsman stuff, but I will go out and get more!

Thank you, Sears!

I haven't bought anything from Sears in almost a decade. I'll get at least something this year, and let them know why I'm back in the store.

My dad worked for Sears for 33yrs and was fired one month before he could draw his full retirement.  That was 30 yrs ago and I still only go there as a last resort.  They can KMA.

I'd be pissed too and I don't know if I could get over something like that. But it was 30 years ago. Maybe sears has changed? I know a couple of guys who work for them part time and say they're very good to work for. My grandfather worked there part time for a long time and they were always very accommodating of him physical maladies that often kept him from work.

They're far from perfect (I won't have auto work done there) but I think that compared to many other retailers they're solid citizens.

I shop a lot there because I like craftsman tools. They're largely made in the USA and they're solid quality. I won't pay Snap-On prices unless it's something I just can't get from Craftsman (like 12point swivel sockets).

I worked for Sears, TWICE, as an appliance repairman..back in 89-92, 2001-2002...while they do indeed have good benefits, my experience is that they cared more for the money we brought in more than they cared for our welfare... However, as a retired Air Force E7 (Msgt) I am glad to hear they do what they can to help out the part timers..
As for shopping at Sears, I don't  shop there near as much as I used to, but do buy the majority of my tools there and will continue to do so.

And if you think $8 hour is a good thing, I guess that's your kind of store. Not mine!  Sad

do not go overboard on this, soldiers can make $70,000/yr. in Afghanistan/Iraq, tax free. They don't work for cheap or should their service be undervalued considering an upper level private contractor (civilians) performing about the similar service gets paid a $100,000 more, er, $170,000. Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries? I'm only too sure they would.

First of all, BravoZulu to Sears for doing this for their serving employees. More companies need to follow their lead.

But, anyone can walk in off the street and ask for the same ten percent and get it - I know, I've done it every time I shop at Sears, which is not that often (50 miles each way to the nearest full service store).
