Someone recently mentioned they had a windshield that delaminated and riding into the sun was nearly impossible.  I rode my annual , full length of the  Blue Ridge Parkway in November and experience the same windshield problem.  It was so scarey not being able to see anything riding into the sun and in and out of shaded areas.  After spending a couple of hours standing up on the pegs,  I dropped off the BRP and went to a hardware store and bought a saw and cut the shield to where I could see over it.  When I bought the National shield in 1998 along with the new Valk, I bought an extra plasic shield,  so I replaced the bad one.  I've been riding 56 years and learned something new about shields.   Please don't tell me to go to the tech board as I'm responding to a rider who used this board to tell of his experience.    Merry Chrismas ya'll !   Skeeter in Va.

The thread you referred to has probably been moved to the tech-board.  Wink

So, what did you learn about shields?  As far as I knew only the Honda shield is prone to delamination, usually caused by improper cleaning products.  Isint the National plastic plexi and not coated lexan like the OEM????  Just wondering

I just got the email from Clear view.  Says all in stock sheilds are 50% off.  I had just bought one 2 months ago, and I love it.  I got one of the damaged shields and when i got it, i could not find the scratches they had posted that it had.

Well, now we know that the National shield unglues as does the Honda shield.  That's what I learned.  My stored, spare National shield is 13 years old. Maybe National didn't coat them back in the stone age. Who cares ?   To answer your question about the learning process,  i had never heard of this delamination thing and I learned something about shields. What more can I say ?    I only post about twice a year and ALWAYS get red-assed.

The shield dose not delaminate it is coated an the coating can come off.I know this because I blasted some of mine off with a pressure washer.I know its stupid but I learned a expensive lesson.Lexan coated on both sides can be bought from most plastic suppliers .I am going to get some an make my own shield.Price about $50.Its worth a try
