Tire Recommendations?
«

I am the proud as pie owner of a pristine 1999 Valk Interstate. She needs new rubber.
So, any advice? I'm a long distance rider (not ready for the dark side yet). Can I increase the width of the rear and lower the height? I'm short and need about an inch less seat height.
I think I want Metzlers, but my Shadow has done excellent with Continentals.

You won't find any continetals that are the correct size. I use Dunlop bias tires. Hoser

Metzelers front and rear (radials)
150/80/17 in the front
200mm out back no rubbing issues.
Stock shocks are 13" long, so you will have to get 12.5 or 12" to lower rear

I know it's been discussed before but I'm curious to know the good and especially the not so good aspects of 200/60 rear tires.
I know they will fit, what about cornering, braking, ride height, tire longevity, etc. I'd like to know what I'd be getting with a 200 beyond "it's wider and looks cool", which of course it is and does.
Thanks in advance

Cowboy: if you just want to lower a little, the 1800 Gold-wing tire is a 180/60/16 instead of a 180/70/16 for the Valk. John U: I had a 200 Metz on my Std for a while, Not much difference in handling but it only lasted 5100 miles. 42 psi and solo a lot, It was paper thin when I took it off, But then again I only get 8 to 9000 out of Avons or Bridgestones. YMMV.

I'd put a set of OEM size Elite III's on it and call it a day. Then go shopping for a shorter seat and shorter shocks. Have you considered an Ultimate Lo Boy and/or a set of 11.5 or 12 inch Progressive or Works shocks?

conti on the front, E3 on the rear.

first try, a narrower seat which will bring your legs closer to the ground better than a lower seat.
