You will like the speed breach plug as it helps with the cleaning. I shoot with 100 gains of 777 powder. Its dead nuts on at 75 yards. If shooting farther you will need more powder, as I get around 3 inches of drop at 100 yards.
Blackpowder is a smelly mess to clean up, and is corrosive if not done right away. It will be a nice way to extend your hunting season. For the Money its a nice gun.
With the T/C Encore line you can change barrels to other calibers for all season shooting. Just a thought.

I built a TC 50 cal Hawkins rifle.... kit....  30 years ago.  Chunked a BUNCH of lead through it...  It was all I hunted with for 10 years....Took 40 deer and several hogs with it....  It is accurate.... but I backed off to 75 gr FF powder...  thin patch, .005 oversized ball... used a wood mallet to start the ball... it really formed  the ball to the rifling..That was the most accurate load for this gun.. YMMV.
Consistant 3 inch groups at 100 yrds   2.5 in high at 50 yrds with iron sights.. ..  fun gun!!!

This will be my next  muzzle loader.  I currently have a CVA Optma Pro and I had to take the trigger assembly apart (NON adjustable from the factory    ) to get the trigger pull weight down BELOW 6 pounds

After screwing with it ALOT, I finally have it shooting good with a nice trigger pull....

DON'T get a CVA....  This is what I advise everyone, get a Thompson Center, great gun IMHO.

The TC Hawkin came with an adjustable set trigger...real nice!!!!

I have a Lyman Great Plains Rifle. Cap lock, 54 caliber, 1 in 66 twist. buck horn rear sight, two barrel wedges. I'm told that it is really close in authenticity to the original St. Louis Hawken.

I only took it hunting a few times.  Accurate also but I didn't shoot it much. Not nearly as easy to load and cleana the latest inlines.  The 1 in 66 won't allow anything but a patched ball.

It's been hanging on the wall for some time now. I'm not into hunting or black powder anymore.
