I got this in an email from my sister!

****************************************************************************************

A co-worker told me a story today about her brother-in-law, who is a cop in New Jersey.

He arrested a young woman and she put her name down as La - a.

He called her mother and said he had her daughter in custody. She asked for him to say her daughter's name.

He said, "luh uh".

The mother asked him how he was spelling that. He said "el ay dash ay."

The mother said, "Her name is LaDasha."

The story is not over. The cop was later telling this story to someone else, and that person happened to know the same girl, whose name was spelled "La - a" and pronounced "Luh-dash-uh."

Go figure.

I heard this one several years ago.  Could be true but I am leaning toward urban legend.

You left off the punch line, "The dash don't be silent."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's urban legend or some other form of fiction.

A local elementary school teacher informed me that she has a student that pronounces her name FIM-ALL-A.  It is spelled Female.
At the first parent/teacher conference she had to ask..."where did you ever come up with such an important, dignified sounding name? Is it French?". They replied that it surprises them that they are asked that question so frequently, because they got the idea at the hospital nursery! Almost HALF of the kids in there had the same name and it was on the big nametag the nurses put on their cribs.

I'm moderately offended by what you appear to be implying about us Indians.

My son had a boy in his class named Tooter Lee Smith. Not a nickname, actual first name of Tooter. When the poor kid graduated high school they announced his name for diploma, like they did everyone, and the crowd roared with laughter. I felt so sorry for the poor kid.

Weird, My wife several years ago had a girl working for her whose first name was Star, not too off beat but the last name was Trek.  Parents must have been a Jean Roddenberry fan.  uglystupid2

I went to highschool with a fella whose name was "Handsome". He actually was.
La-a I heard, was a school teacher got in trouble because she didnt know the dash dont be silent.
I had friends in Lancanster CA who were, Space, Luna and Rockette. Great folks. They lived up against a mountain and we'd dirt bike there and called it "Space's Mountain".
Glad I'm just Czuch.

I 16, I regularly pumped gas for an ancient gentleman named "General E. Lee Elderby."  Everyone called him General, but I called him Mr. Elderby.
