This morning I took a little time before work to snap a few pics from around my home county.
I thought I would share a few of the historic markers that my county boasts.

We have historical Civil War markers:
  Jackson married a local girl.

We have markers for other wars.
Cowensford Battlefield is under the edge of the dam that they built for the nuclear power plant. This hand marker at the over look tells about the area history.

The little benches aren't as comfy as the Valk seat for pulling up and giving a read.

The nuclear power plants dam is behind the sign across the overlook. The manmade Lake Norman is behind the dam (usually). Lake Norman shows up on more maps than my home town of Iron Station, NC.

Here is a better shot of the dam, for those of ya'll that like dam photos.

The overlook needs to be repaved. Haven't been here in years. The last time I was here, late at night, fogging up windows looking at the dam, the cop threatened to arrest us if we didn't clear out. Hadn't been back since.

The info on the powerstation/dam/lake.

General Davidson Monument.
I remember being up here in high school. I remember a cannon. I'd never read the sign before.

Davidson Marker Parking lot. Sandwiched just off of a hwy, between the nuclear power plant and the nuclear security training center. They are putting in a few new lanes that will go on the otherside of this marker soon. Very few trees left.

Duke Power has a Nuclear Power Plant on the edge of our county (or just past). Everyone thinks about it when the fall out alarms are tested. One of the things that we don't think of often is the Turbine Power Plant.
It is considerably newer.

I'm going to have to read up on Turbine Power Plants.

http://www.duke-energy.com/power-plants/oil-gas-fired/lincoln.asp
The Lincoln Combustion Turbine Station is a 1,200-megawatt natural gas-fired generating facility located in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

Lincoln operates as a simple-cycle peaking facility, generating electricity quickly during periods when customers’ electricity usage is greatest—typically hot summer afternoons and cold winter mornings.

The Lincoln facility consists of 16 natural gas-fired combustion turbines. Natural gas is the primary fuel for the plant, with fuel oil as a secondary fuel source.

In 1857, General Stonewall Jackson married at the spot where the Lincoln facility now stands.
