A Dunflop D-206 on the rear That tire has to be 8 plus years old I'd buy some Avon's and run 42/43 psi front...40 psi rear. Or go DarkSide I like the Fuzion ZRi and run 35 psi .

I was going to buy new tires (Avon Cobras) at the end of this season but my Honda dealer said that I still have a good 5 to 6 thousand left on my old ones.

I only said that cause that D-206 has'nt been made in many years...That tire is what my bike had on it when brand new in 1998....I'd worry more about dry rot and age than thread wear

"dry rot and age" here, here! ME 880 front, "Raptor" CT rear. Pressures are a matter of ride prefferance, (just like tire choices). Long Live the Darkside!! Peace, Whiskey.

I would be suspect of a dealer that makes that sort of statement without checking the age of the tire.

OK, here is another question. While we were talking about the tires, the dealer looked the Avons up and quoted some $300.00+ for the rear and $200.00 for the front. If I remember correctly, when i was looking for Avons, I found them for $212.00 for the rear and $135.00 for the front (on the internet). The service manager said that if I would buy my tires through the dealer, my install will be about $100.00 for both front and rear. If I bring my own tires, then its $200.00+ for the install. Is this normal operating practice for dealers?

Installation is always cheaper if you take the tires and wheels (remove them yourself). Most of the install price will be removing the wheels from the bike.. Fred.

What he said about an independent dealer and NOT yer local friendly stealer. My Honda dealer here wanted that 50 bucks a wheel and sign a waiver. Went to my local friendly chopper shop and ta da-10 bucks a wheel and i was standing in his shop watching him do the work. You'll be better off in the long run and save some hard earnt cash by shopping around on the internet. Sides-you remove and reinstall your own wheels you can check on the health of your brake pads drive line wheel bearings and clean up the grungy areas you can't get to with the wheels mounted. When mine was on the lift is when i found out my shifter seal was leaking. RIDE SAFE.

The dealer prices you mention sound about right from a dealer/stealer. I would suggest doing what others have recommended here. Buy on line and have an independent do the mounting and if possible do the install yourself. Like they said it will allow you time to do inspection and other required maintenance which the dealers may or may not do as part of the install. I would warn you about making sure you are comparing like model tires. The online prices you quoted for Avon tires seem a bit low even if you got those several years back. You might have been looking at the Bias Ply tires they offer. The current line of Avon radial tires for the Valkyries are called Cobra. They used to be called Venom but people kept getting them cornfused with the bias ply Venom tire.

Yes, what Fred say's. If you don't already have a lift and lift adapter, buy them and take your wheels off yourself. One change out of tires will pay for the lift and adapter.

Costs $50.00 a wheel (if you bring it in) at any shop around here..pissed me off enough to go out an buy my own tire changer..by time I hit 80 or so it will have paid for itself..but I'll feel better about the whole deal...but I figure once my buddies find out about the tire changer I'll get a bit more use out of it. OH wait, this was about tire pressures...I run 41 in the rear and 38 up front (210 lbs, solo )..neighbor uses Honda suggested pressures and gets far less miles out of his tires but maybe they are smoother miles, don't know don't care...I figure he has more money than I do..
