Improved my mileage by about 2-3 mpg. More than a trigger wheel ever did.

Edit: no prefilter and both my bikes mileage improved with the K&N filters.

About the only advantage is it is cleanable and reuseable.  Got them on both of mine, but as far as airflow, it really doesnt matter if it flows more than stock, unless you have done something to your engine that makes it require more flow, and then you would probably have a whole different intake system.   The stocker will flow more than the stock engine requires, and it will take a few years to recoup the cost of the K&N.  For performance you would probably be better off raising the front of the tank so a little cooler air is available.

I like the K&N because I could pop it out, clean it,let it dry, and stick it back in. No real difference other than that.

I haven't spent $100 yet on Honda oem air filters,as they run a lousy $15 each and get replaced every 2 years or so.
Quite a few other accessories I'd drop $100 for,but k&n is about last on the list.

In my current frenzied crusade to improve my gas mileage, I replaced the OEM with a K & N (got a decent deal from Bikebandit, they matched the competitor price AND I had a $10 gift card to burn) I did install the prefilter and the mileage improvement has been marginal at best.  Can't really see or sense any other changes, other than I know I don't have to throw away/buy another filter.  Deathwish makes a good point; you could get other bling or new pegs/grips etc for the same money.

Had mine for about 40k miles now with no notable change in performance.

Are they really up to $100 now? I paid in the mid $50's for mine.

The plus: no crappy old filter being added to the environment I guess.
