As some of you know I just got my bike back together this last weekend. New bags, new rear tire and other stuff I did this past winter. OK now for the bad luck part. Tonight I was just riding around my neighborhood ( I do this sometimes just for the hey of it). Riding down this street and BAM I hear this loud bang from behind. I stopped (was not going much more than 20 or so at this time). I hear a loud hissing noise from the rear.
I get of to investigate. I find my brand new rear tire with a hole in it. A passer by said I ran over this and hands me a small pair of pliers. Ill be cursed. What I figured was that my front tire somehow kicked them up and into my rear tire. No if that was not bad enough as the pliers where making there round through the tire they hit the top inside of my fender and cracked the clear coat on the outside. ( I was running solo mode so no back seat). OK at this point I'm thinking how am I going to get this thing home. I was about 12 blocks from the house. This nice gentleman let me put the Valk in his driveway so it was out of the street. I called my brother to bring his tire plug kit and compressor. I tried to plug the tire but the plug went in way to easy. His compressor would not inflate the tire. So I went home and got my small pancake compressor. Went back. Filled the tire with the air from the tank. Went flat as soon as I stopped. OK now what.
So I call my buddy Mike at Ehleriding Honda service and he sends a guy out with a trailer to take my bike home. After we unload the bike at home I fallow him back to the shop. Asked Mike what I owed him. He said not a thing. Man what a guy. Told him I owe him a steak. While I was there I ordered another tire. Well no riding this weekend.........

With my luck they would have been my pliers. Have you looked closely at them? Do they look like a set of yours?

This only happened to you once?
I usually break down 800 miles from home.
Every mc tire I buy gets a puncture in the first 200 miles.
The darkside price makes the breakdown much easier to swallow.

Where they good pliers??? LOL- I lost one @85+mph due to a piece of 1/4 dia.steel rod bent into a 90 with only 200 miles on it.

Yeah, I couldn't believe it either.  My other son, Psychotic Bovine, was traveling at a good rate of speed on his last bike, an FJ 1200, when he blew his front NEW tire.  He managed to get it stopped ok but the tire was smoking from the friction, so it couldn't have been patched anyway.

Some years ago, I was riding my '86 Gold Wing a few blocks from home and the NEW rear Metzeler tire went flat.  I had it patched but I didn't trust it and got another new one.

I wonder if the mold free coating on new tires attracts metal? Smiley

The third nail went in sideways into the rubber tread, no puncture.

300 miles on a brand new rear tire that picked up a screw at the beginning of the season  Angry .  It was juuuuuuust inside the 4" tread area that ride-on said it would cover.  I plugged it, added the ride-on and rode it for the season that way.  at $150 for a tire and anoth $100 for the installation, I had to get some of my money's worth.  But I thought about the plugged tire every single ride and it weighed heavily on my mind so I had to change instead of worrying for a nother whole season.

Sorry about the paint, though.  Will you be able to clear over it again, or will it require a lot of work?

The paint is OK. Should be able to be recleared without a problem.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I agree Floyd!  cooldude Man Mark that does suck. Was it a 200 Metz? Those get pricey after awhile! Get it back on the road in time for the B/G ride! You could always sneak a tire off of solo1's bike!  Wink I been lucky after all my miles and States never had a flat. Run outta gas yes, but never a flat.

Yes Brian it was a brand new Metzler 200. It had maybe 50 miles on it. Oh and it cost $230.00. Oh well what ya going to do huh. Oh I forgot to mention that I have known Mike from Ehlerdings for maybe 30 years or so. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Went to high school together. After high school we lost touch. I had not seen him for a long while when I found him working at Ehlerdings last fall. What a surprise.......
