I have both TomToms and Magellan GPS's and they're all good, but none of them are programmable...so I'm stuck with them telling me how to go instead of being able to program my route ahead of time and telling them how I want to go.  Anyone know of a good, affordable GPS that is programmable?  Thanks in advance!

Your key word is affordable. I know the Garmin 550-660-665 are programmable. The 550 isn't made anymore but there are still some new in the wharehouses.

I recently bought a Garmin NUVI 1300LM that I really like .... key in an address and hit goto and away you go. It allows you to add a waypoint to alter the route on the fly.  Be lost without it.  $130

If you have certain garmins, you can map a route on line and export a gpx file then load it on your garmin and have the route you mapped.  I haven't actually done this yet as I just got the Garmin 2460?? i believe, and haven't actually followed a route with it yet.  That is the theory, and I plan to put it to the test once the weather breaks.

You can do it with the TomTom. You just add 'Waypoints' in your route planning to ensure that you go the way you want, I do it all the time Plan the route on the PC then feed the waypoints into the TomTom and away you go. This is all available under 'Itinerary Planning' on my TT.
