I am considering converting my 2001 Interstate to a solo seat as bike registration in Australia is much cheaper because of the lower compulsory insurance.
I intend to make the existing trunk easily detachable, but moved forward to where the pillion seat is now located.
Has anyone undetaken this process, and if so a photo of the conversion would be helpful.
I can also be contacted direct at littleford@hotkey.net.au.
PS
My existing seat is the standard one piece of seat & pillion which has been modified with a rider backrest.
I intend modifying this seat into a solo.

There's a picture of a bike nicely modified the way you describe in
the "days gone by" thread... I just tried to look it up and post a
link to it, but so many people have read that thread and looked
at the pictures that Photobucket won't show them anymore... I've
never seen that before...

I'm sure someone else has the picture, Wizard is the member who
owns the bike, I think...

Any standard seat (Standard /Tourer) will fit on the Interstate with no modification needed.

This picture is from photostash, not photobucket. At photobucket, if you look at a picture too
many times, they quit showing it. At photostash, if you look at a picture too many times,
Scott comes over and flogs you...  2funny

I really like that setup..... if the wife HAS to go, she has to ride in the trunk.  Grin

It looks much smaller than the stock I/S trunk.

What I did. Didn't convert to the I/S trunk due to cost so picked up an '82 Goldwing trunk and the mount. I modified and cut down the mount and adapted it to the Valk....six small bolts and it's off in under five minutes. I also ride solo 100% of the time so wanted the weight over the rear fender, not hanging out in back. This trunk unlocks from the mount and is removeable, leaving the chrome mounting rack. The mount is flat so can also double as a temporary luggage rack if you don't want to use the trunk. Has almost the same capacity as the I/S unit for less money. The weight distribution is also better than with the trunk hanging off the back of the rear fender. I only use it for travel, don't leave it on all the time.

This is a solo Interstate with the trunk it belongs to Carolina Bike And Trike owner  Matt ( Truck Racer ). This is the only pic I can locate of it. Matt was going to start making these mounting brackets ( polished stainless ) to sell.Picture was taken at InZane in Johnson City , TN several years ago and since then Matt don't come around much anymore  Undecided   He still makes a few items for the Valk but I'm thinking this one is the only one he made of these.

I'd sure like to see some pics of the mounts.  I'll bet the stereo sounds awesome with the rear speakers right beside the driver.  I wonder if the ingress/egress is an issue for us old farts.  Might have to do a little stretching to swing my leg over the trunk.
