we've come full circle. last year, "100 year drought"...worst in Alabama history in 100 years (actually, i think OFFICIALLY...worst in 98 years...). yesterday, MOST RAIN...since 1892.....10 inches in 10 hours. and, we're out of the drought (no, say it aint so......) i saw flooding in places i never imagined possible. hiway 231 ...THE major artery North to Wetumpka and other "bedroom suburbs" out of Montgomery...and the ONLY major hiway other than the Interstate (65) ....which is on the far West side of the town...closed down ...mudslides and flooding. took me 2 hours to get home. It usually takes like 40 minutes. And then, it was only because i'm a Ham Radio operator...and i was in constant contact with EOC folks (thru a Ham buddy manning the EOC)....finding out what POSSIBLE roads i could TRY to take. and...i left before rush hour hit!!!!! Still road closures today. Some got washed out and large sinkholes formed...and of course those roads, will be closed for weeks. I've seen the film footage on the weather channel and national news of cars washing down flooded streams, etc.....but i've never seen that HERE. Capital building in downtown Montgomery flooded....Politicians had to be evacuated (wonder if they got any work done ) anyway, quite the day! today, it's sunny, i'm on the bike........life is good........and soon it will be the WEEKEND (that means a big margarita for me... )....so life is about to get even BETTER

forgot to mention....we got struck by lightning. Hit the power pole right outside the bedroom window....pretty impressive (and scary) when it happened! blew up pieces of the power pole/xformer up top. pieces all over the yard. Of course, no more power INTSTANTLY. when i got home, we had power again...but...lights in the arena (practice area Sherry and Susan use for running horses around barrels...has 4 40 foot pools with high power lighting) are either dim....or off. And, both satellite receivers on both TVs are inop. Suspect it could be the LNA/LNB on the dish? Anyway, Direct TV "turds" say it will be at least a week before they can make it out...lots of lightning strikes in our area....lots of damage! i'll be accessing the rest of the damage from the strike this weekend. Was busy cleaning house last night for company coming this weekend. Just glad we have power....and....the roads to our house are OPEN again!!!!!!!!!!! We won't have any TV....so we'll just have to drink more and BS more this next week

We got the same thing last night, plus golf ball size hail. I got up this morning, but I am afraid to look outside.

i've heard of a 2510...but not sure what it might be worth. Most Hams around here are more Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu type folks...or old stuff like Heathkit, Drake, Collins, etc. So while i've heard of the 2510, in my 22 years as a Ham....i've never seen or had any dealings with the 2510. Sorry........not of much help. i saw your post on that some time back....but didn't respond since i didn't have a clue!

The Uniden 2510 ham radio was a 10 Meter 25W AM, 50 W SSB solid state transceiver. It also included 11 meters. I suspect that it was popular due to the (illegal) CB capability. According to Google, the power output transister is no longer available. I have no idea of prices. However, like Tim, and a ham for many years, I'll stick with my Yaesu and Alinco all band transceivers. I'm authorised to work 80-10 meters, and above, and my transceivers do all bands, all modes, and with more power.

I'm riding to Montgomery in the morning to visit my mother.
Going back roads: 9,281,49,63,14, and pick up 231 at Wetumpka. Any of these roads impassable?
Thanks, Coot

the HR 2510 was a decent radio. mostly converted to CB. might be wroth 70 or 80$ find the right person. as far as power transistors goes, there a re a few out there that can substituted easily. I used to work on them things and build amplifiers.

There were two versions of the 2510. The differences are in the CPU and I'll have to check my service manual as far as a P/N difference for them is concerned. In a nutshell: The first-generation units could easily be converted to 11M operation, while the second-generation cannot without changing the CPU, itself no mean feat. The chip is a 64-pin PDIP with close-spaced pins.
Spec'd power out is around 25w SSB; 8w AM/FM. Mine still has its original final transistor and was used for years in a heavy-traffic 10M packet-radio converse node/BBS system. If you keep your fingers OUT of the thing and leave it adjusted to factory power levels, you won't have problems.
Price...if the rig is in like new shape and has all the accessories, figure anywhere from $100-125.
The final transistor can be replaced with a 2SC2879 but some redesign of the stock biasing network must be done in order for it to operate in AB1.

Coot...just now saw your post. most of the roads opened back up Friday. A few...still aren't open (sink holes or major structural damage). Sorry i didn't see this sooner. i don't check the board on weekends....usually make one last look about noon friday...then don't get on again until monday morning! All we have is SLOOWWWW dialup at home in the sticks!

We got 13" in 10 hours here in central indianna last year. You're right. That's a lot anywhere you go. Lot's of flooding in places no one had ever seen it before. My house was OK, but I couldn't get ANYWHERE. Jabba 10" in 10 hours... I thought this was a family board...
