hello....and happy new year to all.
i've read posts about ppl mounting the chrome bad boy air horns on their valks in the space by the fuel petcock. i bought a horn and can't figure out how to do it. is there an extension bracket that i must use & also do i have to remove/relocate the fuel petcock? it also looks good under the headlight between the forks but once again i can't figure a way to mount it. if anyone has successfully mounted one i'd love to know how you did it.

I mounted mine under the swingarm by drilling through the plate on the swingarm and using large pop rivets to mount a bracket. It's been there several years with no trouble.

upon reading further, i found that the petcock needs to be removed and a pingle installed. OK.  ??? what is a pingle and where do i find one? also it looks like i need to fabricate a bracket as well once the petcock is removed......hmmm.....this is turning into a "2 case" job rather than a six-pack job crazy2

Check out this thread: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,34548.msg320631.html#msg320631

I doubt that you NEED to install a Pingle, but you may WANT to install it.  Search the tech board and archives for more information.

Aren't you concerned with the possibility (probability) of the fender hitting the horn in a hard stop?

you better think about what Willow just said.....He's right on.....if you mount that horn between the forks, and you hit a big bump, or hard on brakes then the top of your fender IS going to hit the horn. I've been there with that one.

Yeah, I got a nice set of dents from my lights. Now I check the clearance at full compression on the lift.  Embarrassed

I mounted my chrome stebel on the left side of the motorcycle and positioned between the engine and the petcock.  If you position the horn so the flutes point outward and build a simple right angle bracket to take advantage of the existing bolt positioned in front of the petcock it fits in perfectly and looks like it was made for that space.  No interference whatsoever with the petcock.

No like I said I lowered the fender. Before lowering it it did hit now it dosen't.I could have lowered it more but 1" was enough and the horn I think is better in front.I also made a small thin alum.cover to hide the horn from view an keep the bugs out.It is aboutthree inches wide an six long an bent 90 degrees to fit the horn.I used some silicone to stick it on an its easy to remove.Like I said I want the horn in the front.I would send some pic. but I have trouble doing that .If you want pics.send me a pm with your email add and I will send them to you

thats where i wanted it mounted. i positioned it with the flutes out and there wasn't enough space to mount it upright. the only way it would clear the petcock is mounted diagonally. do you have pictures of how you mounted yours?? the horn i bought is the wolo chrome bad boy...(found it on ebay for $35....not bad)  Evil

No need to move the petcock or buy a pingel. The horn fits like a glove sharing the space. Just build a simple bracket as mentioned before. Mounting between your forks is asking for fender dents unless you lower the fender, which sounds like more problems.  Undecided  I'll post a pic of my install later today.

Here is the pic. Note the black mounting piece that is horizontal behind the horn. Don't worry about the loudness, they'll hear you.  2funny

Yup, Stebel goes just nice on a home made bracket attached near the petcock... cooldude

Horn stands well clear of petcock so no trouble at all in operating it.

Mine has rubber mounts top and bottom (i.e. its supported underneath by foam rubber - this stops it moving around and so hopefully will reduce vibrations which can kill these).

Here's one with a pingle, moved it forward where the old petcock control was, so I could reach the pingle valve.  Hoser

If you have an Interstate you can mount it in one of the radiator pods. Or 1 in each pod for that matter. I still have good air flow exhausting as it's forward of the engine guard - kind of.
This might stifle it a bit, but it stills startles the hell out of the cages.

WELL....I HAVE THE HORN MOUNTED. I CONSTRUCTED A BRACKET AND IT MOUNTS GREAT EVEN WITH THE FUEL PETCOCK IN PLACE. I WIRED IT TO THE HORN BUTTON AND ALTHOUGH IT WORKED, IT JUST SEEMED IT COULD BE LOUDER, SO I INSTALLED A RELAY TO THE BATTERY AND .....WOW!!!!. NOW I HAVE A HORN!! PICS ARENT VERY GOOD BUT IT SHOWS THE INSTALL. LOOKS STOCK. FILL THE GAP VERY WELL. THANKS ALL. cooldude

i just installed one of those horns today!!  i mounted mine right were the original horn went, it's behind a plastic shield that hides the filter, horn, and water pump.  i'll post a picture tomorrow to explain it.  my only concern is heat from the exhaust pipe, it is close to it......
