A fellow Hoosier and former Marine is facing 15 years in prison because he misunderstood New York's firearms law.

Yeah, I agree he made a huge screw up but he is a young guy from a freedom loving state who didn't take the time to do his homework. And may have just ruined his life because of it.

The sad part of this story to me is that it does not surprise me, but then nothing about our legal system does after the O.J. fiasco. Hope all comes out ok for this young Marine.

Bloomberg will use him as an example.
Perhaps this could go to the Supreme Court and all stupid gun laws will be finally invalidated.

If it's gonna happen I hope it's before our leader gets to install another anti-second amendment judge.

I've carried through several of the anti-freedom states. Handgun locked in a case in a locked saddlebag. Ammo and magazines locked in the other. Even that wouldn't be good enough if you screwed up and went through Chicago or just got stopped by an LEO who was having a bad day.

Nerve wracking, scary stuff. It needs to be fixed.

Of course a jail sentence for this is wrong, but what kind of FOOL thinks he can carry a gun in NYC?

I have never been there, and would never go there for any reason.

Years ago a DOE  Los Almos nuclear scientist tried to check a pistol at HQ DOE in DC.......... he went to jail too.  Some people are too stupid to own firearms.

The nurse, Meredith Graves, refered to in the news article made the local news front page here in Knoxville recently.  (Knoxville News Sentinel if you care to look it up) She is from Louisville, TN, on the south side of Knoxville - close to Alcoa / Maryville.  In this article i believe, reference was made to a Florida man who made a similar mistake - cost him $30,000 in legal fees to get out of it.
This is a real shame.  New York has made itself a foreign country.  I hope the word gets out that most people in the U.S. are considered major criminals is NYC & to avoid the place at all cost.

Things like this are one of the reasons I own guns.  And one of the reasons why I stay out of New York.   Sorry Oss, I'll see you in South Dakota, Texas or Arkansas.  Wink  Hoser

Jeez, I am from Canada where our gun laws are pretty strict and I cannot believe that there is no common sense in most people these days.  The guy made a mistake and was trying to do the right thing and they nail him for it.  What a bunch of doe-heads.
I go to NY state a lot and I am always very conscience of what I do since I got a speeding ticket a couple of years ago when I was not speeding at all.  I read later that this is common practice to nail out of state drivers because they will not bother to come back and fight the ticket.
If they keep up these practices and they WILL see a big decline in tourism.

One time many years ago when I was a young Speedy 5 in the Army, got orders for Formosa.  Was stationed at Ft Totten on Long Island,  This was right after the NY blackout.  Put my loaded pistol in my briefcase along with my orders, and promptly forgot about it.  Went on leave, traveled across the country, flew out of Oakland, landed in Hi, Hongkong, where we spent the night, and on to Formosa.  Didnt even think about the firearm and was in the hotel in Taipei when I discovered what I had done.  Still havethe pistol, and thank the lord that was back then and not today.  I would probably be charged as an international terrorist, and Hussien would probably send a drone after me.

+1

As a former New Yorker, I have to say that the Gun Laws there favor only the criminals.  I applied three times for a gun license only to be denied based on the fact that in the opinion of the issuing office, I "did not make a compelling argument to satisfy the requirement for keeping a firearm at my residence".

I now live in VA and have my concealed carry permit.
