Taking a road trip w/ Father in law and friend, down to Key West... been looking at hotels, B&B's, etc, and reading reviews, but not sure of what/who is bike friendly, and $$$ friendly. Any advice out there on a friendly place to stay, that keeps under $150 a night in Key West this time of year?

Be sure to ask about off street parking. You don't want to park on the street all night.

That might be a tough one this time of year... It's been a long time, but I tooled down there while working in Miami in `99 on the bike with my girlfriend.. The "innkeeper" at a B&B turned us away when he realized we were a hetero couple... He only rented to gays.. I had made a previous telephone reservation with him, guess I just didn't have enough bass in my voice for him to tell,LOL..

I like to stay up the chain around Marithon, and ride in for the day. Gotta watch the parking, they actively enforce tow away zones. Also watch the speed, each island seem to have their own enforcement and limits plus the staties also work it. Its definately worth the trip, the Keys highway is awesome.

That is unreal. Can you imagine how many Civil Rights groups would be be screaming "FOUL" and filing lawsuits if a hotel refused to rent a room to a Gay Couple ?

We had a group do this trip 3 yrs in a row during Biketoberfest. We always stayed here http://www.theinnatkeywest.com/ They are bike friendly, you can park at your door, they have washer & dryers, and have the largest swimming pool in Key West with a Bar. this time $159.-$229. Take the toll road around Miami, believe me you will be glad you did.

First time I went I stayed at the Days Inn just as you get into Key West. Nice place but you are at the east end of the island. The 2nd time I went with Duffy, Werner and Fifi and we rented a house for 3 days/2 nights which was just a block or two off Duval (the main drag). I believe we payed about $75 a night per person. If Duffy sees this he may have more accurate information.

+1 on the off street parking. When staying in Key West where your bike stays the night is important. We've been down several times but always seem to find ourselves staying in Marathon. That way we can ride to the places we want to be. When we found a good parking place for the bikes we would always ride 2 up the rest of the week to save the good spot. We have stayed at the Banana Bay Resort & the Key Colony Inn on Marathon & loved them both. Haven't stayed in KW yet but riding down & back was a delight while spending the night in Marathon. Other than the more exclusive resorts you will find more reasonably priced places to stay off of KW but if you are into the "night life" KW is the place to be. Key Colony Kim & her Shadow behind the Banana Bay Resort. Be sure to check out this State Park. Cool name huh? Obliglitory "Southernmost" pic. Don't miss Mel Fisher's museum. One more "Southernmost" pic 'cause I like remembering the trips! Damn! I think I may plan another Keys bike trip for the spring!

Been a while, but I agree the Blue Marlin was our choice too. No matter where you stay you MUST stop at Alabama Jacks - at the top of the keys. Great Conch, beer, etc. I'm surprised no one has suggested it yet. It's on Card Sound Road - a nice road that parallels A1A.
Many in Miami (bikers included) go down for the food and music (when playing). You can Google Alamaba Jacks to find out more.
Enjoy

WOW!!! Lot's of great replies and recommendations. We found a room at the Southern Most Point Guest House, for $185 a night, "rock throwing" distance to the Southern Most Point, which we will of course take the "obligatory" photo, like Tropic Traveler. Looked at Days Inn, etc on the East end, but figured walking distance to Duval was smartest option, so we could park the bikes and not worry. Apparently, there's a huge food festival of some form in town, so nearly everything else was booked. I called and spoke w/ manager Gary, and he said there's "ample parking for any type of vehicle, and we have bikers of all forms stay here.", so I'll write a follow up review and let you guys know after we make our trip. Thanks again to all for your feedback!! Much appreciated!

There's a lot of nice old parts of Key West. And a lot of true diversity ... At one house you pass, there might be people out at the gate enticing you to come in - "We got naked people upstairs!" At the next house, it might be a fancy restaurant with wine and linens... I didn't go to any of the nekkid places, but this toothy fish was de-licious... -Mike
