The "witness" that called in the report should have to pay for the damages just for being such a self righteous busy body!

It is well under way already.  My border collie here on the farm would die if it did not get to ride in the back of my pickup.  And, it is OK here.  But, in a number of places, I would be in big trouble!

Can you name one of those places where, "I would be in big trouble"?

The "Nanny state" tentacles will slowly squeeze the life out of us.

No, it's the bloody cops who, in this day and age, seemingly refuse to engage in anything approaching "judgement".  It was the cops who busted up the car.  It was the cops that want to press charges.  It is the cops who used no common sense in responding to the complaint.  Never mind that anyone with a lick of sense might have seen 50 degrees, cool dogs.  Cops had to jump in.

No, it's not the nanny state... it's the gottdam cops turning into storm troopers.  I recall fondly my high school days where a very reasonable small town cop tossed our bottle of liquor into the bushes, asked what our parents would think, and sent us home.  Today, I'd be in jail, there'd be a front page article on underage drinking, and the cops would be grandstanding over the perils of underage drinking.  I'd be a criminal, processed through the juvenile courts, with some sanctimonious bastard explaining how I need to learn the dangers of underage drinking.  Thanks, but no thanks.

Cops get more out of control every day.

Don't ask me what cops do for me  because I don't know.  Cops don't stop robberies and assaults in progress.  They don't stop property crime in progress.  They catch only a small percentage of burglars and other perps.  What they do very well is harass the crap out of normally law abiding citizens.  This is a fine example.

and as for having the pooch in the back of the truck.............you can have them in the back of the truck but they need to be tehtered on a short enuff leash so they can not get out of the bed or to be dragged

Har har har... again... you obviously don't know crap about Singapore... good luck on trying to bribe an SG cop... but we were talking about the cops who think it was OK to bust into a car in 50 degree weather... can I redirect your wandering mind onto the topic at hand?

It sounded like the problem started because someone saw the dogs in the trunk area before the owners closed the trunk.  It is illegal to transport dogs and other living creatures in the trunk of a car.   Trunks are not insulated against heat or cold like the passenger compartment of the car is.

Of course, dogs being dogs, when people investigated the trunk the dogs would have rushed to the trunk and started barking.  Proof that the dogs were indeed locked in the trunk.

If the dogs had been in the backseat without access to the trunk, it likely wouldn't have happened.

um, yep, gotta agree with that one!!  it is true, but do we blame the cops for what they do, or do we blame the attorney's that would sue the police department if the cops didn't do those things.  police have to do things by the book, for fear of the book getting thrown at them!!

although, a little commen sence would have been appropriate in this situation.......

+1, alph... this 'zero tolerance' nonsense has got us nowhere... you are right... cops maybe behave the way they do because of over zealous lawmakers and lawyers who try to squeeze everything they can out of the law.

Having said that, the tendency of police departments to supply ever more militaristic training to the police force does little to contain cops who are taught to be aggressive.

You are correct.  There were really good cops... and there were many that I met that shouldn't have been in uniform.  Most try to do right... and when placed in a macho environment, it is easy for the excesses to happen.  I worked with many law enforcement agencies across the country.

Then again, if you know that about me, you must also know that Commissioner Bob Eckels Senior precinct 3 goons threatened me outside Commissioners Court... for reporting their illegal use of county computers for political purposes... wish it had been me... was one of their own that did it.

I have watched my black lab lay in the sun in the summer when its nearly 100 degrees. Took a temp reading of his hair one day with the temp gun and the surface of his hair was 187 degrees. It didnt seem like it bothered him at all. Our whole back yard is pretty well woods and he found the only sunny spot to lay. So you cant tell me dogs in a car at 50 some degrees will hurt the dogs. Even if it happened to get up in the 90s. You get in more trouble for mistreating an animal or not mistreating a animal in this case than you do for mistreating another human. You could kill a man and do 5 years or kill a dog and do 15. What has this world come to

It wasn't an SUV and it wasn't black. Sheesh!

A direct quote from the linked web page for those UNABLE to read and comprehend.

The two were celebrating John's birthday in Dallas. They stopped for lunch in the West End leaving Penny and Copper inside the car. The couple said they pulled the back seat forward so they could stay safely in the trunk area.

Oh man, I have to agree with this.  Our county is going through a load of crap brought on by a cop car camera video of 3 county cops beating a handcuffed guy, then tazzing him, stripped in the snow, beating, kicking, tazzing, over and over, well maybe twice, but I guess twice is enough for me.  They declared they did nothing wrong and all was by the book.  Well, I watched the video, and I cannot believe this is by the book, I'm sorry, I just can't. What really worries me is that when the fit hits the shan in this country, will all the law enforcement line up with big brother or come to their senses and think like law abiding citizens who are tired of the crap? Sorry, but this stuff bugs me a lot, since I am involved so close to our local government.  Not to hijack this thread, but do a search, look for Darrin Ring beating by Humphreys County,Tn, and you can see the film.  Now, this guy is no angel, never has been, but he is still a human.  Sorry guys, this hit a nerve, there are to many gestapo cops today, still a lot of good ones, but sure a lot of bad ones that do not belong on the force.  I see a cop in a ninja outfit, I start worrying.  Wink

If the FD & PD needed access to the trunk, I wonder why they didn't just bust a small window and get to the trunk release in the car instead of doing all the body damage.

Just wondering what using a laser temp gun on my dog has anything to do with beating wife and kids.  Apparently junior dosent know how these temp guns work. Its not like the laser burns a hole in what you are taking a reading on. Just dont get what some people think. I also have one of these for taking my sons temp when he is sick.

If the dogs had been in the backseat without access to the trunk, it likely wouldn't have happened.

I think Lyn-Del actually got it right. I don't think it was a question of the temp. outside as much as they thought the dogs were locked in the trunk. I don't know what color the car was, what kind of car it was, or if the car was parking headed in a northern direction. Perhaps they could not see that the backseat was pulled down to allow free run of the car. Who knows? The police could have called them before tearing up the car, but they didn't for what ever reason.
I don't get the purpose behind having to drag your dogs around on errands with (especially while you go out for a dinner date) you. I love my dogs dearly, but I know they rather stay home and hang out on the couch, bed and anywhere else they feel like lounging.

It wasn't an SUV and it wasn't black. Sheesh!

A direct quote from the linked web page for those UNABLE to read and comprehend.

The two were celebrating John's birthday in Dallas. They stopped for lunch in the West End leaving Penny and Copper inside the car. The couple said they pulled the back seat forward so they could stay safely in the trunk area.

ok so what color was it? and even in direct sunlight steel gets hot have you ever heard of a solar oven?

try it some time just for craps and ha ha's

the news agency said the tried the temps out in one of thier vehicles, it got to the high 60's

My dogs would rather be in the car than anywhere.  I was doing some stuff in the back of the truck this afternoon, so had the tailgate down.  Ranger went out the back door with me and disappeared.  I found him in his crate in the truck, ready to go for a ride!
