Looking to add a chrome grill, but it appears to me that most grills block about half of the air flow into the radiator.  Has anyone experienced any overheating after adding one?

Thanx

I have often looked at those flatstock cutout radiator covers and wondered the same thing.  Especially the ones that close a significant amount of airway.  I would worry about them in high temps.  I suppose many have with no reported problems.

I prefer the looks and function of the Rattlebars chrome bargrill  (gone the way of the dodo) and Darryl's F6Designs stainless bargrills.

BTW  FYI, if you will use the stock wire radiator cover under the bargrill (after cleaning it up with a wire brush), the four mount screws length is longer than with no wire grill, and using the longer screws without the OE wire grill can hole your radiator.  Pay attention.

I have the VRCC Logo grill from Valkyrie Bling and live in nice, warm Louisiana.

No problems here.

Fan doesn't even turn on unless sitting still for extended periods of time.

I've had this grille cover on both my '97 & the '99 with no problems here in Florida, even in Bike Week & Biketoberfest traffic.  cooldude

I have the "flat 6" chrome rad cover. and my fan started this past month after running idle for about 20 mins.  and that was in my 50 degree garage. last year i put in water wetter so that i would get better transfer, but my fan runs a lot?

The radiator covers that I carry were first computer and then lab tested after production so that this would not occur. In 6 or 7 years I have had 2 complaints of overheating, both within the first year. Each time I agreed to pay a mechanic to make the repair if the problem was with the cover. In both situations the problem was the same. A bad connection at the temp switch that signals the fan to turn on. None of my over will cause your bike to overheat.

After 20 minutes of running at idle I would expect it to come on. When you bike is sitting at an idle (not moving down the road) there is no air moving (forced) through the radiator. So, that being said the cover would have very little to do with the fan coming on.

Got the stainless dragon rad. cover. (Actually won it at drawing at first Inzane meet in Ohio.) Never had a problem with overheating. As seen here in the past I ad a little WATER WETTER to the antifreeze. Is used in racing. Been in there for years and no problem.

I have a Valkyrie Dragon rad grill from Valkyrie Bling. I have not had any over heat troubles at all.

I'm Jess, but not the trike owner.

That looks suspiciously like a deer whistle.

I had one, and blew the heck out of it, but no deer ever came.

Tundar, Salty, thanks for the compliments! And thank you Jess for pointing to my more recent post with the updated pictures Wink

The trike kit is from MotorTrike. The sensor you see hanging down at a 45 degree angle is an electronic deer whistle. We have so many of those furry guys down here it's my biggest fear when riding! I'm also springing for the new high density LED bulbs MotoLight now offers in place of the halogen bulbs. (They'll draw less current as well!) I'm looking to throw as much light on the road as possible in the early AM hours.

So now to get back to the original thread, as I had mentioned I've seen no issues with the radiator grill I have from 'Valkyrie Bling' causing any over heating issues.  cooldude
