Think that's bad, the DC Wildlife Protection Act of 2010 took effect in March of last year.  It is one of the most stringent wildlife laws in the nation.  The law only allows for the killing of any wild animal if trapping is not an option.  While there is an exemption for rats, it is being argued they must also be trapped if possible (and likely relocated to my Old Dominion State (VA) across the Potomac). Further, the law encourages efforts to maintain families when possible.

Maintain rat families..... what a hoot.

Leave it to DC to protect Rats............(greatly on the increase due to Occupy Slugs).
Self-interest don't you know.

The real issue, which is naturally unmentioned by today's journalistic minions, is whether or not the shooter was respecting the safety and property rights of others while popping the squirrels.  Wantonly shooting up into a tree while sitting on your patio drinking a beer, is not good gun safety practice, even if only a pellet gun.

We do the exact same thing.......we always have some squirrels but last summer it seemed like an invasion.  One pellet gun later they were under control.  The only difference was, no one complained and the large numbers of the more aggressive squirrels seem to be at someone elses house.  We are back to having a few "nice" ones again.  I would have no problem waging war against another invaion if it should happen  cooldude

i wasn't sure, so i read the article again.  didn't see beer drinking or "wantonly" shooting up in the air mentioned anywhere.

chesterfield is also the area that people are having accident after accident hitting deer, but the they don't want them touched. not trapped, not shot, nothing, but, they still complain about too many deer in their neighborhood.

i just don't understand.  guess you need to be wealthy to think like that  Sad
