expected pretty much what I got. I made it about 30-45 seconds and he was talking about teachers and how certain ones made a difference in the lives of everyone in the room. OK not bad, I digested for a few and turned it back on and got this gem. (not a direct quote but pretty close) "in the past three years we've opened up millions of acres for oil and gas exploration" my eyes started to bleed, yes they HAVE opened up all these acres for exploration. one small detail there's no oil or gas where they've opened up, or at least not enough to make it profitable. so he can make a statement like that and (nudge, nudge wink, wink) to his base and no one is the wiser. I can't take the half truths, obfuscations and out right lies. I had to turn it off. is the prez lying when he says we only have 2% of the worlds oil reserves? yeah! we have 2% of the PROVEN oil reserves, we most likely have 25-28% of suspected oil reserves. some call that "intellectual dishonesty" but I know what it is. pick any speech and you will most likely find some line about how 'millionaires and billionaires aren't paying their fair share' when anyone with Internet can find the stats at the IRS website that say otherwise. the top 1% pay 40% of ALL taxes and the top 10% pay 70%. I cherry picked a couple of fine examples off the frontal lobe, I'm sure I could find more..... lets be honest, this is all rhetoric aimed at keeping his base riled up and shouting for his re-election. prove me wrong (I've got a flame suit somewhere, but don't need it anymore my butts constantly in the bonfire)

I listened to the prez for maybe 90 seconds
Ninety seconds more than me. He's got nothing. The only word I want to hear from him is goodbye.

We don't have a President. We have a leader of the Democratic Party. No, you are completely wrong. We have a President: Barrack Obama. What seems to offend so many Republicans is the thought that a Democrat can hold the office... as though only Republicans have the right to hold the office... from some of the posts on this board, you'd think that it ought to be illegal... with nonsense like this post and the drivel posted by Chrisj. I'm voting for Obama. I'm also contributing to his campaign. What are the Republicans offering? People with extremist views. People who want limited government yet want to put the government in your bedroom. People who can't seem to understand that the number one problem facing this nation is jobs... yet they are willing to put us into another depression with their misguided economic views. They pander... look at the 'red meat' Newt tossed out in SC. They flip flop. They lie. Not one of them is presidential material. And God help us if one of these miscreants gets into office.

"And God help us if one of these And God help us if one of these miscreants gets into office." ANYONE drawing a breath would do much better than this shameless "miscreant" that we already have in ofice. "crap like this post and the drivel posted by Chrisj" are their opinions and they are entitiled to them just like you are. BTW,I voted(not for the socialist ticket). I have a 33yo Marine gunny Sgt. who has seen 4 Iraq tours & 2 in Afghanistan.. This "miscreant" wants to ruin his retirement which he has rightfully earned. I have countless family members who have been put out of work by his policies with regard to domestic oil drilling & production. So I also have a legitimate right to bitch about this farce of an "administration" who is currently in the process of ruining my country.
Fritz is right. People like you don't make me mad,you make me sad.

Sorry to say I was a Republican when I was a councilman. Lately I've sent emails many times to the National Republican party about the infighting of the so-called front runners for the Office of the President. Evidently the Office, with its power, is more important than the interests of the United States and its citizens. All of them have done everything to show us that they are not qualified and nothing, so far, to show that they have a plan to get us out of this mess.
Someone said, not too long ago, that the Republicans are trying their best to snatch defeat from the Jaws of Victory. So far, that is my thought too.
Too bad that a third party wouldn't work in this late stage. Having said that, I'll hold my nose and vote for the one who makes it through this mess. Anything is better than what we have now. Unlike the Republican wannabes I know what I need to do, meager as my vote is.
The Founders are rolling over in their graves. Todays version of politics was not what they had in mind, I'm sure.

If there's any thing that can be taken as a real fact in this entire political mess, that quoted statement above is 100% TRUE (so sorry to say)!

I agree wholeheartedly. I am not a republican,I'm registered as an independent. We need a leader with BALLS,not a "community orginizer" who wants to give 30% of our paychecks to scumbags who don't want to earn their way. We have an epidemic of cardiac problems in this country. A lot of people who don't have the "heart" to get up off their asses and go to work.

The Founders are rolling over in their graves. Todays version of politics was not what they had in mind, I'm sure.
George Washington despised political parties. "All obstructions to the execution of the Laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They [political parties] serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels, and modified by mutual interests." Probably parties are necessary in order to achieve any kind of consensus and compromise. But when the party end all is the party itself, this is when things go bad. When Mitch McConnell's only go is to ensure the President doesn't get re-elected, something is amiss. The country should be first, and when both parties act only for their own selfish interests, the system is broken.

Social security and Medicare? At 30 percent, you are way ahead of Romney and Warren Buffet. And me. Not by a lot, though... although my taxes finance a wide variety of government operations... and not very much at all for scumbags... although I must say I don't like the corporate scumbags feeding off the government trough... and that includes the military industrial complex.

My wife and I are both very Republican but listened to the entire speech. Our opinion was that it was a campaign speech in a lot of ways, but the President also chastised Congress and Washington politics and did speak about some good ideas. Sounds like he patterned a few areas around speeches from JFK and Clinton. We don't believe all he claimed as accomplishments but at least can check those out and decide for ourselves if they were true.
Not listening won't help. Not knowing what is being said is not the solution.
Vote as you see fit but find out as much as you can. Votes are precious and should not be cast lightly.

I made it a few minutes; one sided drivel, then decided to watch a TIVO'd episode of Top Gear; woke up when it clicked off. The boob tube was showing the republican response / more one sided drivel. It the stuff that gets people's panties in a wad on this post, it's just more one side against the other; like watching tennis or maybe ping pong. Bemusing at least, bemusing at best. And though I try to stay away from this internal strife, here’s my 2 centavos.
Fox show host, Judge Andrew Napolitano may have nailed it on Jon Stewart a few weeks ago; that we have one BIG government party, the democratic wing that likes war and taxes and individual welfare and the republican wing that likes war and deficits and corporate welfare. Both sides of the same coin like big government. Until there is any real choice, not much will change. Term limits for all? Constitutional amendments?
There is too much corporate money in the election process creating too much power through lobbying and all politicians are pandering for those same corporate dollars. Until the govt. / corporate revolving door stops spinning, there will be no meaningful change. Why should it?
Politicians are by their very nature pathological liars. They have to be in order to be able to convince the electorate to vote for them. They have to be liars to convince voters that what they believe what’s in the voters’ best interest, even if that belief is momentarily.
It doesn’t matter what your party affiliation, Big Government loves BIG GOVERNMENT and politicians lover to hear themselves talk. It doesn’t really matter what side we’re on, we are usually going to be on the wrong side of this. Lately in politics, it’s not enough to simply win and argument, the other side must be destroyed to boot. Forget a logical / rational argument; let’s make it a personal attack. That said; when finger pointing, remember, that there are now three fingers pointing back.

I listened all the way through too. He's a really good speaker. Last night he said: . .. we should support everyone who’s willing to work; and every risk-taker and entrepreneur who aspires to become the next Steve Jobs.Obama spoke directly to Steve Jobs about why Apple products are manufactured in China not long ago... Why can’t that work come home? Mr. Obama asked.
Mr. Jobs’s reply was unambiguous. “Those jobs aren’t coming back,” he said... http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/business/apple-america-and-a-squeezed-middle-class.html?_r=1-Mike

I think I'ed rather talk to someone with an open rather than closed mind. Your path is set. sadly.
No, it's Zero's mind that is closed...... to reason and sanity; and his path is set... to destruction of our County. And it isn't sad, it's an outrage. my mind is closed to the man that is steadily destroying a country that I'm proud to be part of. there is no reaching across the aisle to any of this, I can't find middle ground. I'd vote for Casey Anthony over this man.

You seem to have an expansive view of being ripped off... by scumbags, by the President. You got any facts to back you up? Who are these scumbags. Are there a lot of them? Must be. Thirty percent of your paycheck is going to scumbags? Who is paying for the military? Social security and Medicare? At 30 percent, you are way ahead of Romney and Warren Buffet. And me. Not by a lot, though... although my taxes finance a wide variety of government operations... and not very much at all for scumbags... although I must say I don't like the corporate scumbags feeding off the government trough... and that includes the military industrial complex. Please take your distorted views to someone who cares to read them. I don't. Like Fritz,I wish to be put on your ignore list. In the interests of decorum, this will be my last response to you. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Buh-bye!I don't think he's going anywhere. Toodaloo! Yah... I guess you are right... 'cause if he doesn't figure out that he needs to put me on his ignore list, he'll just have to keep reading my well reasoned posts. "well reasoned" thats a matter of opinion
