I just now found out that MOTO LIGHT has an LED option to replace the standard halogen bulb. They also offer a high output LED version.

Do any of you have these?

I was already considering converting (if possible) my headlight and driving lights to LED for the increased light and reduced power draw.

Opinions please.  Wink

Motolights wants $130 for the pair. You can get them on ebay for less than $30

I got the standard LED upgrade kit from them about 4 or 5 months ago. I have a Cobra lightbar as well, so I figured the LEDs would lower the wattage draw I needed for lighting. I discovered that I preferred the warmer light from the original Motolight bulbs to the bright white of the LEDs. The old color more closely matched the headlight and the Cobra halogens. I can't say I noticed a big difference in how they lit up the area in front of the bike. For me, the Motolights are more about being seen than in helping me see, anyway. If you don't care about the increased current draw I would say stick with the halogens.

Thanks for the info!

I've always noticed that when I put my driving lights on, you can hear a slight drop in the RPM at idle. Then when I also put the Moto lights on along with the driving lights, the idle drops a slight bit more. I just thought having the LED's to decrease the current draw would be less of a strain on the alternator.

Hi All,

I would really like to confirm the 'Lumen' output of these LEDs.
Most LED lights I have seen have no where near the output of a Halogen.
I think they might be fine for anything but a Headlight.

But this is only an opinion, there may be better now.  coolsmiley

Cheers,

Glenn

Good LEDs have gotten to the point now that they ROCK. I don't have experience yet with LED headlights,
but Carolyn and I ran an experiment with my 4 AAA cell LED flashlight last night. It was very dark last night,
basically no moon. See the little white building in the picture? Carolyn was standing a little further from the building
than the Valkyrie is in the picture. I went up there, went inside, she shined the flashlight in the window,
and I could read with the light (with my cheater glasses on)...!!!

Theres a post somewhere here about the LED headlights, We run them on a few trucks where I work. The make HID's look like incandescent, and incandescent look like candles.

Read this thread when you have some time: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=607184

Check out these spots - go to the "detailed descriptions" and look at the illumination pics: http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-QualiRegResou/StoreFront.bok

Lastly, Kuryakyn has them in their catalog - both spots and headlight buckets.  Might be a bit spendy from them - but they definitely can produce serious light now.  I'd get them if I didn't already have the light problem solved to my satisfaction. I'm recommending LED lighting to my lifelong highschool friend who just got back into bikes and bought a Harley.  See http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/3964/Phase-6-LED-Headlamp-Passing-Lamps

Hiya Mark,

Kuryakyn also seems to make those head lights you suggested to your buddy with the Harley for metric bikes. Do you think that they would fit our Valks?

(By the way Mark, I'm picking up my Valk trike tomorrow from servicing. Can't wait to hear and see your exhaust on her!  cooldude)
