The real Romney the media ignores: After going to both Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School simultaneously, he passed the Michigan bar, but never worked as an attorney. As a venture-capitalist, Romney’s first major business deal involved investing in a start-up office supply company with one store in Massachusetts that sold office supplies. That company, called Staples, now has over 2,00...0 stores and employs over 90,000 people. Romney or his company Bain Capital (using what became known as the “Bain Way”) would go on to perform the same kinds of business miracles again and again, with companies like Domino’s, Sealy, Brookstone, Weather Channel, Burger King, Warner Music Group, Dollarama, Home Depot Supply, and many others…Got your calculators handy? Let’s recap. Volunteer campaign worker for his dad’s gubernatorial campaign – 1 year. Unpaid intern in Governor’s office – 8 years. Mormon missionary in Paris – 2 years. Unpaid bishop and stake president for his church – 10 years. No salary as president of the Olympics – 3 years. No salary as MA governor – 4 years. That’s a grand total of 28 years of unpaid service to his country, his community and his church. Why? Because that’s the kind of man Mitt Romney is.

The man is obviously the kind of person that the greatness of our nation sprung from. It is sosad that the "enlightened" of us have decided that because we have poverty and injustice in our country, it has to be the fault of people like Mr. Romney.

Who said that??  Or are you talking about people like those that worked in that steel plant Bain bought, plundered, drove into debt and bankruptcy, then closed?  I wonder what those people think about Mr. Romney??  And oh yeah...your tax dollars are supporting those people's pension that Bain stole.  Angry

I also wonder, just like you,......which means, you have no idea what they think and how they feel,......right?  And maybe Bain bought that plant to save it, but was unable to by the time they stepped in.  And maybe by Bain stepping in, it allowed the plant to stay in business just a little longer so the workers could make just a little more money before the inevitable and saved shareholders from losing everything(this is one twist that I read recently).

Funny how ONE business down turn in a career that made dozens of companies thrive, thousands of people rich, and gave tens of thousands of people jobs and he's a monster.  Obama has NO business experience. loses half a billion thinking he could pick winners in energy, and loses more in the recent car battery failure that he sunk millions into, and he's our savior??

The steel plant was just one example (there are more) and I haven't seen anything that would indicate the company was in trouble prior to Bain buying it.  They had a few of the former employees on TV and they didn't have too kind of words for Romney/Bain...though admittedly it was a political interview so I'm sure that had something to do with it.  And you are right in that he saved the share-holders...which at that point was primarily Bain.  Their return on their investment was incredible...I forget the exact numbers but it was something like a $20M investment turned into a $130M return.  But you gotta admit, the employees (and taxpayers and other creditors, for that matter) got screwed by way of their pension fund being plundered and the bankruptcy.

I don't totally understand how these "leveraged buyouts" work and I can't figure out how buying a company, taking  and driving it into bankruptcy doesn't reflect poorly on Bain in terms of their credit worthiness.  Doesn't Bain now own the bankruptcy on their record??

And you are right in that he saved the share-holders...

Companies exist to make money.

In the case of a publicly held company, the company exists to make money for the
shareholders. I think it would be awesome for a company to exist in order to
make money  for the employees. I guess employee-owned companies
are like that.

Here's a list of "notable" employee owned companies:
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_employee-owned_companies

I recognize only one or two of them, Publix is one of them:
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publix
Publix is currently ranked No. 86 on Fortune magazine's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For 2010

I looked up the top three on the "Best Companies" list (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2010/full_list)
and they were either employee owned or privately owned.

Could be, but it's more likely that it's the other way around.

It is quite amusing to watch Republicans embrace Romney (or at least pretend to) now that reality is setting in.

maybe Barry can do better  with Solyendra.  oh yea, that was $535 million in tax dollars down the crapper and all of the employees on the street.  but he got a few million in political contribution from the Greenies out of it.  thank God there was no profit available to be made.
