Can anyone tell me about the upper bolt on the right side looking from the front? I am trying to remove it and am having trouble. I seem to remember hearing something about sealant being applied to it because the threads reach into a cooling journal. Is that the case?  Can't seem to remove it with my standard Allen wrench. Do I just need to be more forceful, or is there some other problem?

I had the same problem,I used an allen head socket and short extension.....placed  the socket  inside the bolt  head  and gave  it a couple  of  sharp raps  and it turned loose and came out with a little effort, but it did break loose..mechanic at local dealer told me about this little trick..

Thanks for the input Slider, I was able to remove it by adding a torque amplifier (small piece of pipe) to my allen wrench.

Seems to help if the motor is at operating temp........  softens the sealant a bit

Sealant: I used a standard waterpump gasket sealant. It's a version of RTV I believe.

I use bathtube sealant. Come off easily with a little rubbing. Used it all the time when I used to overhaul VW engines.
