"The mountains are calling and I must go."

« on: January 29, 2012, 11:12:51 AM »

Just back from an interesting ride. There's this road I had never been down and always wondered where it went. Well, today being sunny and warm, I decided to go see. After about 4 miles, the pavement ended and it turned into dirt. Feeling adventurous, I forged ahead. After mile or so, I ran into a series of mud puddles that were randomly scattered and required skills I hadn't used since taking the MSF course. after another mile or so, I ran into what looked like a genuine hillbilly homestead straight out of Lil' Abner.

Then the dogs spotted me. I made a hasty decision to turn around and head back the way I came. That was almost the wrong decision. While struggling to get the valk turned around, the dogs were gaining on me fast. I just barely got rolling as they caught up with me. For the next mile I was dodging mud puddles while at the same time trying to keep my feet out of range of the nipping dogs. Once clear of the puddles I was able to put some distance between me and them and they finally gave up and let me go.

I learned my lesson, curiosity really did kill the cat. From now on, I'll research before heading down a strange road.

I had to run from my own dog on a dirt road (my driveway) yesterday. She was carrying a 5 or
six foot long stick, and she's jambed sticks like that in the spokes of my mountain bike
before, it would not be pretty if she did that to me on the Valkyrie...

Sounds like you did good, running from the dogs and zig zagging through the
mud holes  cooldude
