I just put a 205/55R-16 Yokohama S.drive on. Everything went on well. My concern is: There is not much clearance on the right hand side by the drive shaft, but seems like much more room on the left side by the brake. Should that distance be equal? Do I have a problem or is this the way it is? Thank You all in advance for your help. Looks fantastic other than my concern. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-VJG5v5LQMd0/Tyc8rx7W60I/AAAAAAAAADM/FoXzJTDtsmI/s512/Rear_TIRE.jpg

Yup! I can get a credit card, maybe two, between the tire and the swingarm on the RH, I can put my finger between the tire and the swingarm on the LH. Good Year TT 205-60R-16

When I put the first CT on my 98 Tourer I thought the sidewall was rubbing the drive shaft tube. Could get a credit card in the gap that was all. Check your air pressure and you should be OK. More air pressure helped mine.

Most all darksiders have a tight clearance on the shaft side, and most have no issue.
But look for rubs anyway, esp when/after carrying a load/wife. You're probably fine.

Yep... VERY tight on the drive shaft side.... not so much on the break side.
At first, I had no rubbing... after a few hundred miles with a passenger and trailer, SLIGHT rubbing on the drive shaft side (basically, just enough to clean the dust off the tire without taking rubber off).
Turned out to NOT be the drive shaft, but actually the "nut cage". (Search for "Nut Cage Mod" if you haven't heard of that one yet.)

If there is any clearance there at all, it will not rub. If it rubs when heavy wt added, you are hitting the nut cage, not the driveshaft.
Ask me how I know! I had to go to a carraige bolt, so no head inside the fender.

I have a little over a quarter of an inch between my new Falken Ze512 205/60R 16 and the drive side of the swing arm. I did the nut cage mod and the washer mod just to be sure. My thanks to the VRCC boards for that heads up. With about 150 miles on the dark side now, I am thinking I really like it but I am just not certain of it yet.

With some unknowns I waited until there was a heavy downpour. I wanted to ride in a heavy rain on roads and an area I knew. I was happy with my test except making myself pull out of the dry garage into that heavy rain was hard. I was able to ride straight roads, curvy roads and highway speeds in a town I knew very well.

GoodYear Triple tread w/36#, no rub.
Nut cage will rub before the drive shaft tube or the swingarm.

My first darkside tire was a Cooper Lifeliner 205/65R16 and it had very little clearance at the driveshaft. Now I run a Michelin Hydroedge 204/65R16. It has a bit more clearance and both worked just fine. I am about to put a new tire on, it's a Falken SE-512 in size 205/65R16.

Thank You all for your input. I was worried. I did do the nutcage mod with a SS carriage bolt. I sawed off the excess and filed the bolt off clean to the nut. I wanted to put a CHROME eggcorn nut on, but was concerned that would not clear the IS bags. All in all I am happy with the way it turned out. Now all I have to do is wait for WINTER to be done with.
