I've just completed an install of an IS tank on my 99 STD.  The bare tank was purchased from a salvage yard and had to be repainted and trimmed out.  I went ahead and purchased the I/S sending unit and have been toying with the idea of installing a fuel guage  - Motosens or Autometer C-2 seem to be the most common, but  would like to hear of other options if there out there.

I already have installed Motosens Wtr Temp, Oil Press, and Volt guages.  I've been warned that some aftermarket guages are not compatible with the Honda set-up and others lack the appropriate level of damping - the guage will bounce around too much to get a clear reading unless at a full stop.

I would like to hear from those of you who have added aftermarket fuel guages.
Whihc manufacture did you installed and why, compatability with IS sending unit, how clearly does it read, does it have adjustable damping, etc...?

Thanks in advance,

Sambeaux

I also added an IS tank to my Valk Trike and have the full line of Motosen gauges including their Fuel Gauge. It works perfectly!

Try Joop in the Netherlands, he's just developed one that doesn't involve drilling the tank or using an internal sender unit. He can be found on other threads on the forum or if you have trouble let me know.

I have a gear indicator of his and it's brilliant. cooldude

Been using an Autometer C-2 for years with no trouble. You have to use the Custom setting on it because the sender works opposite of the automotive industry: 0 ohms=full, 90 ohms=empty.

+1 for Motosens. I have the temp, volt, and fuel gauge and all work perfectly and look great.

John - Can you provide more details on the set up. I understood the Autometer was reversed but wasn't sure how it was corrected.

It's the Honda sender that's reversed, not the Autometer gauge. I'm in Louisiana right now, should be home Sunday, I'll take a look at the instructions then. You have to use the Custom setup described in the Autometer instructions to accommodate the Honda sender, but it works fine. I have pictures of my three gauges but not on this computer.

Sambeaux, just make sure the bike is upright when you make the "custom" setup if you use the Autometer C-2.  Otherwise it won't read anywhere near correct. (don't ask)  uglystupid2
