So what should I watch out for?
Honda dealer is repairing it but I'm a bit nervous.
Are there other problems thtat might show up later?

It's a 99 IS with about 30K on the clock.

So what should I watch out for?

Did they fix the cause of the problem, as well as the problem?

Likely a bad petcock, also perhaps one or more carburetor
float valves that can let gas pass...

Spend some time on Shoptalk on this board. There you will find a HUGE amount of info on maintenance and prospective problems, as well as many mods you can do to make her your own.

will give you a good start; Known Valkyrie Issues.

Welcome to the madness, we need pictures...

First off Welcome aboard..Secondly, sorry it had to take such a significant problem to get you here..Hope the dealer (mechanic) knows his business and gets things done properly. These FAT ladies are best enjoyed on the highway and not the dealers back room..Enjoy her, she'll keep you happy if you pay some loving attention to her on occasion.

Just got mine back from the shop with same issue. Needless to say I find myself looking at the petcock two or three times a day like I can see if somethings wrong with it. I replaced these gears 15T 19T 66T holder, pins and the case which had a chip out of it. I got most of the parts off ebay for less than $400. $1000 in labor (not the dealer) and had a new petcock put on.

Good news is that its been in the 60's here in NC and I've been making up for lost time. The guys on this site gave me a lot of tips and if you search the tech boards there is plenty info out there.

There's a real good test here you can use when you have stuff apart (petcock off the bike): http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/petcock.htm
When you can look down in there and see that little flap move, it give you a warm fuzzy feeling  coolsmiley ...

Probably as good is to just turn off the gas while you're riding and see if you run out of gas (you have to go a little ways, it is not
instantaneous), coupled with running to reserve and observing that reserve works...

A petcock can go so bad that you can look at it and see that it is bad... gas can start leaking out of the weep hole on a bad petcock, unless
the weep hole is clogged and then gas runs down the vacuum line to cylinder number six. The weep hole was clogged on the leaky petcock
on my buddy Gary's new-to-him Valkyrie  crazy2

It was leaking and blowing raw gas out the exhaust...

my bike is a 99 and my carbs 1 filled the jug up and tore up the rear housing up. i didnt figure out it was the carb needle not shuting off and the tank valee not working. until i repared the damage to the housing and could once again crank it. i left the plugs out to asure a free spin and shot gas 12 ft. i worked over the carb. right rear one and took the plunger out the valve and i always turn the valve off until i can get me another valve. this job is not a joke i had to pull the motor, etc. this bike had less than 10000 miles on it . the low milage means its been set up and this is not a good thing. i'm going after the front end next got a clunk neck or wheel bearings. i hope this helps. if you need to talk to some about a posible problem just give a hollar. another one of my so called good deals. good luck pouch

Getting it a day early............trying to contain excitement.
Stay calm......be careful......this ain't like your old EVO.
Maybe I should wait until the title is transferred and it's registered?

As already semi mentioned. Before you pay for the bike, drive it outside, leave it running, and turn the fuel off.

If it runs out of fuel in 5 min or less, a possible cause of hydro lock is not a likely hood. If it keeps running, and never runs out of fuel, give the bike back and tell him to fix the hyrdo lock problems first.

As also mentioned, before getting the bike, do searches here and read about what are the multiple causes of hyrdo lock.

Be a knowledgable consumer. It's easy enough to prevent.

Ran it with the petcock turned off......took about 5 minutes to shut off.  Shut off abruptly, did not stumble first.
All the carb float needles were replaced.  Petcock OK.  I think I would like to replace the petcock with a pingle? I do not like the Honda design at all.
Does Pingle mak a specific unit for the Valk?
