First of all, want to say hi and thanks up front for any assistance provided.  I'm a newbie to the Valkyrie's and really excited about owning one, if I can ever get it to start.  My XR650L has decided that's what it wants to be when it grows up.

So here's how the story goes.  I acquired a 99 Interstate with about 34K miles on it.  I know the bike was in good running condition about a month before I ended up with it but it had gone through a couple people during that month.  When I got the bike, it had some teeth knocked off the starter & starter idler gears.  I tore the bike down and replaced those with out much trouble given I've never ventured that far into an engine that size before.  When I did my first test everything went perfect.  Bike turned over perfectly and I was ready to start riding by the weekend.  Then something happened, bike wouldn't turn over any more.  After trouble shooting I bought a starter relay and that did the trick.  Then during reassembly of all the wiring, I got a couple of them in the wrong places and when the battery was hooked up it blew the 50AMP fuse.  I went ahead and rewired it for a standard fuse of equal capacity and tried to start it.  It turned over like it should but never even tried to start.  So back to troubleshooting where I discovered I was getting no fire on all plugs.  Since that time I have double checked all the connection, fuses, etc.  I have also done a bypass on the bank angle sensor per some posts I have read.  Also checked the black/white wire at the coil pack that it's getting voltage when the switch is turned on.  I called the local dealer and asked about getting a replacement CDI, I woke up in the living floor with the phone in my hand and called back to clarified that I just needed the ignition module, not an entire new bike and pit crew to go with it.  I then asked if there was a way to test it and was told to check the resistance on it whit a meter but that's all he knew.  Couldn't give me any more info on which pins should have continuity, the resistance, etc and that's where I am.

Any suggestions on what to do before I eBay one of these things and it end up not being what I need.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Make sure the battery is charged to max before trying to start the bike.  You can try hooking it up to a non running car battery and I bet it'll start. These things have to get at lease ten volts to the coils to fire off. They will turn over like a sewing machine but will not fire. Also you could try to push start it. They crank very easy when pushed I have pushed started mine several times because of an alt. problem. Welcome to the club, your life has taken a turn to the good side.

OH, and one more thing make sure the choke is actually working..it pulls to a point you think it is on but all you've done is take out the slack in the cable, it'll go another 3/8 " or so..

Also be aware that the original issue...broken teeth on the starter gears, was probably hydrolock (gas in the cylinders) and you need to check/repair the petcock and probably clean the carbs...

Pretty sure the battery is good but will do the car battery check just to be sure.

As for the Hydrolock comment, thanks for that info because I was wondering what would cause that.  It's a relatively cheap fix, under 100$, but the time involved in tearing it down and putting it back together is a different story.

I will double check all the suggesting and let you know.

Thanks
