The local stealer has a '99 interstate sitting here that I've been eyeballing. I do have some questions about it though and thought y'all might be able to help me out.
It's a red and black one (the fastest color?

) with 62K miles. It has the Ultimate seat (with the "V" on it) though there is a 4 inch rip in the driver seat. It has a trunk rack, CB, 6x6 straight pipes, driving lights and passenger floor boards. The asking price is $7500 but I know the dealer has 6200 in it and I could have bought it for that before Christmas.
Here's what I've seen: there is some shrinkage of the dash plastic and based on the dirt on the dash the bike was stored in a barn; there's the rip in the seat; one of the chrome clamps holding the handlebars on shows sign of corrosion (at least the chrome is puckering up), one of the screws on the left pod was over torqued cracking the plastic; the chrome on the passenger floor boards is 80% gone and finally the 6x6 pipes were put on by the dealer which might indicate the original pipes are available but don't necessarily come with it. From what I've read here the engine would need to be re-jetted with these pipes but I don't know (yet) if that's been done. Rear view mirrors need to be either replaced or re-tightened 'cause I couldn't get them adjusted right or to hold position. I did ride it and I love the ride, shifting seemed smooth and I felt/ heard no hesitation in the engine. Clutch and brake fluid did not appear burned. Brake disk looked OK. Tires and brakes are normal wear items and as such basically irrelevant.
Compared to other bikes offered on line this seems to be slightly higher mileage then most and at the asking price over priced? Then I should also consider that shipping or P/U would increase the purchase price of any other bikes by probably a grand. I'd be interested to hear your assessment based on my description.
Thanks.
