Anyone using these chrome filters from e-bay?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-GL1500-Valkyrie-CHROME-Oil-Filters-3-pack-/390353853704?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5ae2e71d08

Are they any good? Any known problems with them?

I also found some old threads here about using a stainless salt shaker from a restaurant supply place as a cover.  Anyone have a link to the specific shaker or which filters they fit on? Maybe some pics or dimensions? I found these on e-bay, but they don't list the diameter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120839828164?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Also found these. They have a 2 5/8 dia. Will that work? I'll have to go out and put a mic on the filter thats on there. It has no markings tho. Probably a honda filter.

Going to do my first oil change. Who knew it would be so difficult deciding what filter and oil and chrome bits to use?

K&N has a chrome filter. You can get it at AutoZone or Advance. Part number KN303C.

The ones listed on e-bay with the tape measure are the right ones. Been using these for at least 6 or 7 years. I get them in a shopping mall in Louisiana whenever I'm in that area. I usually wrap some electric tape on each end of the oil filter to make them fit snug. I pay around 4 or 5 bucks each for them.

If you want shiny for cheap..... get a pop can and polish the paint off........ cut the top off when done and it will slip right on....

I have a Strohs can on mine..... 10 cents(deposit in MI) and you get a cool refreshing beverage to get ready for the work.......

Wix was making chrome filters a few years ago to keep the harley types happy. Avail at carquest. they should be able to cross the filter numbers.

Thanks everyone.

I guess my only other question is which filters work with which covers? I did see the list of filters that work and am leaning toward the PL 14610. But is it the right diameter to fit under the shaker cover. Also what filter works under a beer or pop can?

Also I see the 14610 mentioned in various threads but it is not actually on the list. Did they change the # or is there also a 14459 and 16817?

I have always been using Fram on my cars but from what I've been reading here I think I'm going to change to Purolator. I did find out today the Valk had a Fram 6017 on it.

I buy the 3 pack of chrome filters off of ebay.

I have chosen them strictly by looks and price.  I have no technical data to support whether or not it is a good filter, other than my bike is still runing.

The darn thing came from the factory with enough chrome for me, so I just run a Wal-Mart Supertech # 7317 on mine.  Its a good bit longer than the original and holds enough extra oil that I just pour in a whole gallon of oil and it fits perfect.  By-the-way, I use ONLY Mystik JT-8 15w/50 oil.

I use that oil in everything from the lawn mower to the Rolls Royce.

I use a regular oil filter, however I change the cover out every now and then. I currently am running an old original budwiser can with a pull tab on it. Sometimes I use a Coke ca, as well.

I get a lot of questions or remarks about them.

I ended up using the Pure One filter. The one with the yellow grip finish. PL 14610 I think it was. Got it at K-mart. A Pepsi can fits right on it tight. Not sure how it compares to the Super-tech size.

Salt shaker can still be had at Kitchen supply store like the ones at outlet malls. About 5 bucks each and quick trim with a cut off wheel and our done.

You can get ten PL14610's for $30 from Advance Auto by ordering online for pickup at the store and use code A123 at checkout. cooldude

The code gets you $20 off a $50 order, so you can substitute other stuff (except oil) if you don't need 10 and you're to stingy to share.  crazy2

Soon to be replaced with a black enery drink can.
The bike had a chrome cover of some sort when I got it.
But it was all corroded and the filter I have on also a PL14610 didnt fit it.
Too long for the cover.
As others have said.
Removing the paint from the can actually looks good too.
Just a little fine steel wool and a few minutes done and almost free.

Cut off wheel for what?  Handles?  The restaurant supply house I get mine at have two styles, with and without handles.  I buy the ones without handles for $5 each and don't have to do a thing to them.

I cut mine right at the flanged area about a half inch from the open end so the edge has a little flare to it. I gess it isn't neccesary to do this I just did.

Custom1, I have this same filter on my lady under the Iron City Beer can. This can was a tight fit where I had to sand off some of the rough finish. My bike runs on Iron City, the red and black on the can matches the red on the bike. This can has sparked a lot of conversation here in the Charlotte area especially with the Pennsylvanians living here.

I cut my shaker down also. It was to 'long' and would hit my mud flap and knock the studs off of it.

Anyone got a picture of the "Salt Shaker"
Here in Canada, our salt shakers are very little.

Brian, Yes I forgot to mention that I had to sand it a bit. The can would only go on about half way with some twisting before sanding.
I am not a big beer drinker, but have had an Iron or two. Has to be pronounced "Iearn" tho. Not sure how to spell it.
We have family transplanted in the Mocksville area. Was there for the Easter weekend. Love the area and weather down there.
