In 1999, she had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer.  Drs. tell you that "statistically" if there's no recurrence in five years you most likely have it beat. In her case, it waited a little over eight years, then came back in the bones. It was strictly by accident it was even discovered this time around, but was caught in time to prompt some intense treatment. The treatment and drugs took its toll and required her to retire about three years early from teaching. At present, it appears to be accelerating because more areas are showing up in spite of the chemo and radiation, and has finally started to show up in some organs. As you can imagine, the pain is constant and quite intense at times. Absent a miracle, her time is measured.

The first picture below shows her on their Alaska anniversary cruise just a few years ago, post mastectomy. She had her hair back and most of it was natural color. A beautiful girl, was about 45 at the time. The second picture was taken this past week. Her strength is gone, the treatments not only make her sick but cause her red blood cell count to be so low she can't even speak due to low oxygen. As some of you already know, six years ago this May we lost her younger sister to cancer at age 44. This gal is my oldest of four daughters, age 53. Needless to say, her remaining two sisters are devastated.

Thanks for letting me unload a bit, it gets difficult to keep it in sometimes.

Hey John, my s.o. and I are both praying for her and the family. My s.o. lost her mom to breast cancer when she was still in high school, she says she is praying for you and yours constantly, and says if there is anything we can do let us know, we are local and willing

Take care and god bless

The inner strength you have must be immense.  A parent never should have to go through something like this but you appear to have a strength most of us don't have.  I'm not sure I could hold up under these circumstances.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family and specifically your daughter.    Lean on your friends for additional strength and support and if there is anything we can do to help, just tell us.

losing a child is the hardest thing anyone will ever experience.  i cannot imagine the pain of losing two children to the same disease.  i wish there was something, someway, anything possible to take away the sorrow.

my thoughts are with you.  if i were there now, i'd just sit by you and cry, sometimes, when the pain is shared, it seems to hurt a bit less.

if it helps, know that i'm shedding tears for you, as i type.

take care, know that we all care.

John, very sorry to hear the news.

I can speak from personal experience that cancer has a very cruel side to it.

I have a friend who was cancer free for 10 years before she had a reoccurance.  She has been fighting ever since and when I talked to her the other day she told me that they are quickly running out of options.  Sucks.

Right now I am only buying time with my treatment which I think is about to come to an end.

Remember....it's not how you died...it's how you lived.

Thumper, I've been watching and reading of your own personal battle. In talking to my daughter, she said she isn't going to quit fighting. But I know her strength is waning, seems like the only thing keeping her going is her spirit. I'm sure the day will come when she will decide the pain is too much to bear for the results received. Before I left yesterday, she told me that "one day soon, she will be singing with Tracy(her sister that passed away) again."  And she was smiling when she said it, something I found hard to do.

You take care, hopefully our paths will cross one day.

John,

Words can not express the compassion we feel for you and your family. I can tell you that you are not alone. Prayers for you and your entire family.   angel  I just found out last week that a very good friend of mine is suffering from stage 4 cancer. Much too prevalent in our world. So sad...
