I use to live on this web site up till five years ago. Changed jobs and life got busy. It’s changed a lot since I’ve been gone. Glad to see its still up and running. 1997 Valkyrie Tourer 200k+miles. I noticed today that the clutch seems easier to pull in. Pulls off fine. I can still bark the tire on a dry road. Also noticed I have to pull the clutch lever all the way in to fully disengage the clutch. Scrapes sometimes going into second gear unless I pull the clutch lever all the way in. Clutch fluid looks good did a change and bleed when I changed out the last rear tire 3k ago. Clutch lever / bushing looks ok. I suspect a clutch spring in the damper. I'm going to pull the clutch cover off and take a look around. Anyone got any pictorial of this procedure? Thanks in advance Don in SC

200k+ miles, wow! check thickness of the friction pads, minimum is .140, spring .200 in height, and last the dampener plates flatness shouldn't be more than .012 using a feeler gauge. oh yea the steel plates for flatness and discoloration. i'm still working on mine, go to "bearing noise or clutch plates" lots of good info too much to copy and paste. sorry.

you might look at the lever, specifically the brass bushing. If it is oblong (not round) or showing wear it might be as simple as the replacement of the bushing.

A second bleed, minute at most, might be a good idea.
Just to be sure there's no air.
The troubling thing is that you have to pull the lever totally to the bar.
I don't feel that is normal.

Would agree with Ricky-D. Check the bleed before making more complicated/expensive assumptions. Remember the simplest solution is always the best.

I got in from a short ride at lunch time today. As I was coasting up the drive way and I heard a low clicking sound like a lifter tap. I pulled up into the garage and put the bike on the center stand and put the bike in 1st gear and started the bike and let out the clutch. There is a clicking sound coming from the rear of the trans. When I put the bike in neutral and let the tire coasted down the clicking stopped. I put the bike in second gear let out the clutch set the throttle lock at 1k rpm and got down next to the bike. Sounds like a bad u-joint, slapping grinding noise but it’s coming from the trans. Sound is going up and down with the tire speed not the engine rpm. Thing that bothers me most is the clutch has almost no resistance when you pull in the clutch. Its way to easy to pull in, but it still pulls off ok. I'll check the lever, and bleed the line tonight, I do keep them well lube but at 200k they are well used. I'll pull the rear cover off this weekend. Don In SC

Did the clutch fluid you used at your last change come from a new (sealed) bottle? silicone fluid is known for absorbing moisture from the air.

Thanks to all who responded. It looks like I'll be making this repair this weekend. I'll try to take as many pictures as I can . Went over 210k last weekend. God bless Mobil One . Now I need to search for a new front tire. Don In SC
