Does the pingel bolt right up to the IS tank or do I need some sort of adapter?

I'm hesitant to lay out the dough until I know.

Yep, it'll go right in the same way as the old petcock.

You will not be able to keep the chrome knob however, the old one associated with the stock petcock.

It threads on to the same threads as your oem petcock.  Be aware that it has half a gallon reserve capacity as opposed to the full gallon of the oem petcock.  If the filter screen stays,  inside the tank, fine.  If not you may be able to reinsert it.  If You can't, you will have to buy a new one.  Not a bad idea anyway.  Hoser  Smiley

My pingel came with a stainless steal filter screen. The pingel will be a hair small to hook up to you fuel line. A good hose clamp will help. I added a additional fuel filler between the pingel and oem fuel line.

Guess I got shorted, I used the one from the oem.  It worked fine, though.  cooldude  Hoser

Another option is a Golan Petcock.  This what I bought.  I also bought their inline fuel filter which is highly rated.  The Golan petcock has detents which I like as opposed to the Pingel.

It would be handy to have detents, I will certainly check that out if I get another.  Hoser  cooldude

A small little silver one from Auto Zone. It was a Fram filter. I change it every year.

The Pingel doen't have detents?

That's correct!

Turned all the way in one direction, the stopcock is "off", turned the opposite direction all the way and the stopcock is "on".   About 180 degrees (or less) in travel.

"reserve" is midway between the two.

Very simple and easy to understand and operate. No detent needed!
