I and others have posted that people in congress can take non-public information and make stock trades that beat the street 73% of the time. they pad their bank accounts in a way that would get you and I hauled off to the pokey. millions of dollars on average in their first term alone.

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/208423-senate-approves-bill-to-ban-insider-trading-by-lawmakers (it's a blog but seems to have the gist of the news story)

now I find i have to give kudos to the democratic held senate last week they passed legislation barring law makers from this practice. they passed this bill with wide bipartisan support (96-3) and on the face of it I have to say good job. Shocked (now you guys on the left, breathe, close your mouth, and don't have a heart attack. I know I actually said good job and democratic senate in the same paragraph) 2funny the house is working on their own version of the same bill.

I'm suspicious of course I'll throw out a Reaganism "trust but verify". why would they vote to end ANY part of the gravy train is beyond me uglystupid2 what's next? are they going to vote for their own pink slips in the form of term limits? not gonna hold my breath for that.

Don't worry... the Republican controlled House is already trying to water down the provisions passed by the Senate.

funny you should say that because according to stastistics I heard Dems would take advantage of the insider info at a rate of two to one over Repubs

but to be fair the gravy train has been rolling for both parties for far too long. only a righteous few have refrained from taking advantage of the masses

There are good people and good ideas on both sides of the aisle. To many times these days one side thinks they have all the answers and refuses to even listen to another point of view.  uglystupid2

Leave it to Congress to have to pass a bill that requires them to follow EXISTING laws.

Leave it to congress to diddle around on bullsh!t make-work stuff.

I propose they pass a law that says if they don't pass a balanced budget in 10 days, they all commit suicide.

Or... 535 large burlap sacks.  1070 suitably large rocks.  535 meters of stout binding twine.  And one large, deep river that can hold 535 sacks.  Meow!
