Well started gym workouts last week, doing 3 to 4 miles on a treadmill every other day, and after a short break doing 1 hr aerobics with a trainer. I guess her great looks kind helps push me on. First couple days I could hardly move the next day , but now is getting a lot better. I feel like I have lost a few years of age all ready. Tough, but I needed to get back in shape. At least I ride the Valk there, so it is valkyrie related.

Great to hear, it gets easier. Not that I managed to keep it up for any length of time, but that's what they say... keep up the good work!

Hang in there as it's all good. I don't know your age or other health situations but I embarked on a fitness program several years ago. I was the most senior person then and I'm still the most senior at the gym. No, there's no senior discount on push ups. I huffed and puffed, had a lot of aches from my neck to my toes. I needed lots of rest between classes and just did all I could. The other folks are anywhere from 12 years old to my age. 2+ years later and I now enjoy keeping up (mostly) with the teenagers and 30 somethings. Most all of the pains are now gone. I didn't know that was even possible. My feet don't hurt. No back or neck issues like there used to be. I don't fold in half like many do but I am more limber than I ever remember. Good food in moderation and lots of sleep are your friend. Your body is really busy rebuilding what's broken. I'll be 63 soon and I'm determined to not go quietly. Good luck!! It's worth it.

68 here. I retired the first week of January & went on Medicare Part "B". I chose Humana as my insurance carrier. It turns out that they provide free membership at the YMCA & at Snap Fitness - a store front type gym. My local "Y" is 3 miles away, & a Snap Fitness gym is only 1/2 mile if I walk - about a mile if I drive. I'm also trying to lose a few extra pounds & get back in shape - especially with the cardio stuff. Because of a past knee injury, I like the recumbent bike. Keeps my weight off the knee & the seat is actually comfortable. The "Y" has some excecise sessions. Thinking I might like to try that when I think I'm able to keep up. The group thing & some accountability would be good. (Although I don't see myself ever doing the Zumo dance sessions) Lynn

I guess it is working for me, lost 9 lbs so far. Have not changed my eating habits. Like I was saying, helps having a knock out girl for a trainer, too young for me, but adds some incentive.

Bill, keep at it, especially the workouts with the lady trainer. My gym only has guys as trainers. Oh well! I started back with the weights last May, hadn't done any lifting in nearly 20 yrs. and brother....did I pay dearly for about two weeks. I had been riding the bicycle for a long time, anywhere from seven miles on up so the cardio was good, but lifting is a whole different ball game. I'll be 74 shortly, been down a lot of roads and they haven't all been smooth and paved. I just want to continue staying flexible, but some joints that were injured either in sports as a kid or in the military tend to fight back at times. Keep at it and we'll flex for the ladies at our next lunch ride. NOT!

http://paceexpress.com/Whatispace.aspxDr. Al Sears is a medical doctor, a board-certified clinical nutritionist, a strength coach and an ACE-certified fitness trainer who's helped transform the bodies of more than 60,000 people using his patented P.A.C.E. program. Dr. Sears created P.A.C.E. in the 1990s as a way to help rehabilitate the injured hearts of his patients. He knew the path to a strong, powerful heart was not in long-distance running or "cardio" exercise. So he began asking his patients to do short bursts of activity, followed by rest that progressively got more intense as time went on. And P.A.C.E. was officially born. Since then, P.A.C.E., which stands for Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion, has received world-wide recognition as a more effective, more exhilarating path to a strong heart, robust lungs and a naturally lean and effortlessly energetic body.

One thing that really surprises me, the lady that teaches the aerobics on Tuesday is 69 years old, I cannot keep up with her half the time. Really amazing gal. The other one I have for the other days is 26 years old and really a great looker, but she can be brutal some times, egging me on when I am ready to quit. I have another couple weeks of this, then starting on weight training, that should be fun. I finally got it through my thick head it was time, to get in shape or turn into a couch potato.

well, I am a lot younger than you old farts... but I sure feel old. I tell people ALL the time that I ain't that old, but I have a LOT of hard miles on me. 12 years of football, and breaking my back when I was in the navy have added a few dents. Anyway... I weighed about 350 last year. Hit the gym. I do endurance training 5 times a week, and personal training 2 times. I was down to 316, but Christmas, the superbowl in town, and a back episode, added 10 lbs back to that. I have lost 10% of my body fat though, so I have been adding a lot of lean muscle. I am down 4" in pant size (Nothing like Mac... down 17" HOLY CRAP!!" My biggest struggle is the pushaway. I REALLY like to eat. It's not from emotional trauma, or any other such namby-pamby psycho babble. I like to eat. I like to eat too much. And I am not good at retraining myself NOT to. though I am trying. I am coming up on a year with my trainer. I like it. I still get sore though. I think it has to do with my medicine some. I take crestor... and although I have been off it for a while... Jabba

Jabba its not how much one eats but what one eats. www.westonaprice.org eating this way will lower body fat% and keep lean muscle on. grass fed beef and lamb are very high in CLA a fat that actually lowers body fat and puts on muscle. there are also 300 studies proving how it prevents and removes cancer and/or tumors. if the animal is not grass fed it doesn't have it. www.grasslandbeef.com where I get most of my meat from. I am just a consumer, no connection. http://www.grasslandbeef.com/Page.bok?file=health.html

There's an old dirt road on our property, runs from the top of the hill where Carolyn's horse pasture is, down to the creek at the bottom. Several times a week we run up, and then walk back down, the hill four times. Been doing it for a year at least. I notice a difference in terms of not getting out of breath so easily, but mostly I just feel like an old guy that's been running up hill ... -Mike

Grumpy keep going, it will pay off in the end.
I'll turn 66 in a few months. Figure that I want to keep riding my Valk for another 10 years or more. This is the reason I go to the gym 4 times a week to move iron, and spend an hour or so day at least 4 times a week walking around (can't run anymore - knees don't like it). We live on the edge of town and can walk in sage brush and trees. I had a job, when I was younger, that allowed me to walk around in the woods looking at trees. That kept me pretty fit, till I ended up pushing a desk. That's when I deceded that I had to find a place to exercise to keep fit. Been hitting the gym ever since. I am slightly over 6' 3" and weigh in at 225 lbs. Wear 36"X36" levis and XX size shirts.

I understand your pain. I'm 65 and started working out again after a 10 year layoff. It's not as easy as it used to be, but after 2 months I'm starting to feel the see the results. I do 30. min in morning and 30.min at night 6 days a week. I purchased a FLSTC in November as my 2nd ride because it's easier to handle in parking lots and such. We all know the HD doesn't come close to the Valk. I think riding my Valk is main reason I started working out again.

OLEMAN, I am slightly over 6' 3" and weigh in at 225 lbs. Wear 36"X36" levis and XX size shirts. Damn, I am 5`8" and wear 35 x 29 levis. You make me feel "fatter" with your 36x36 " Way to go ; I wish I could trim down to 32" x 29. Don`t have the wind to do it. Maybe in the after life. It is hard to maiintaine a work out when your are 77 in March. I used to do a M, T, W, work out for about 2 hours. Now, I find excuses to forgo and get on VRCC. I keep thinking : tomorrow, tomorrow. Ask yourself quality or quanity? Do I want to eat what I want, live how I want, and not kill myself working out or do I want to live a extra year or 2 and kill myself getting there? In the end we still die. My partner and her friend are loosing weight and working out alot. My partner is only 110 lbs but she wants to loose more. She is always saying how hungry she is cause she watches her cal intake and hates working out. Another coworker that is larger told them, 'I'm gonna die fat and happy. In 30 yrs when I fall I wont break a hip like you skinny chics will.'
